First off, If you read these verses, the "strong man" is a figure for Satan.

And this thread is about war not houses, two different subjects.

The point Crabby made was that Wilson did NOT start WWI

[Rather it was his initiative that brought about the Armistice. You'd know that if you had read my book about the Christmas truce!]

    OK, you have me there...

So, the only strong man in our lives is satan?

And, we are weak and powerless and expected to lay down our lives for a common thief?

    Your choice... Not mine...

    Try this instead:

Mat 24:43 But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into.

Luk 12:39 But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into.

How would he have prevented the break-in?

    I disagree. :D

For without a strong nation there can be no free houses...

And, without houses one can not truly make a home...

Many sacrifices were made by "Right-Wingers" to secure and preserve the freedoms which so many Americans and Europeans enjoy and take for granted.

Freedon isn't Free, and which no currency can secure but the Blood of Patriots, or at least the threat thereof.

Costa Rica has not had a military since the 1940's. The realized they did not have enough money to both take care of their people and also to have a military. Thus, they decided to do away with the military. It is a wonderful country to visit. No one is mad at them.

So, it is your contention that the USA should not have an armed forces?

I was simply showing that your statement is not a universal truth.

    So what is your point?

Other than the Gospel there is no "universal truth".

That is not a universally true statement. Perhaps you were thinking of strong in ways other than military power.

Who are Costa Rica's enemies? What's its strategic location/value?

It doesn't need a military because it's primarily a tourist economy.

It may indicate that someone's statement is not "universally true"; but it's not necessarily a valid comparison to other countries in question.

Why do we have enemies and Costa Rica doesn't?

Might we not be better off if we were not a super power? Would not being able to defend our borders be sufficiently super?

For the same reason that my cat doesn't have enemies: She mostly stays on the porch and she has nothing that anyone wants.

Costa Rica is a signatory to the Rio Treaty, and the US is obligated to defend her from foreign attack. That may be a reason why they do not have a standing army.
