Because after a certain point, it becomes a slaughter?

Did you agree with the articles recollection of WWII's unbalanced victories? Did you agree with our war fighting efforts? Talk about slaughter.

Proportional warfare is an idiotic concept to embrace when your foe is not vanquished.

If your enemy comes at you to destroy you then slaughter is as it should be.

In other words, if an obnoxious, but severely disabled person hits you over the head with a cane, you should stomp him to a pulp.

This would be rejected by most people who have no problem with doing that to a nation that attacked us, but had no real means of defending itself against us.

The reason for this disparity is that nations are composed of people, and nations behave differently than people.

Your example is inappropriate and lacks the necessary comparative components to equate what you think is the difference between the two.

When people get into fights no one one dies and mass amounts of people do not die. However, if a handicap person was to attempt to take out a large number of people with an uzzi or a handgrenade then you bet I would take him out. There is no room for proportional warfar with those who want you wiped off the face of the earth.

I would disagree with this. Nations do behave like people. Some nations behave and follow the rules. Other nations act up and misbehave. Some nations need to have some discipline applied. They need to learn that their misbehavior carries consequences. If they break the rules they should be punished.

Let's look at that example for a second.

What is your answer? Should you let someone beat you over the head with a cane because they are disabled? What if they have a knife, should you let them cut you? What if they have a gun? Should we allow any members of our society to prey on others due to their disability?

How about, if an economically challenged individual tries to steal your car should they give up months or even years of their lives suffering incarceration in a penal system? That seems out of proportion to the crime. What if they commit armed robbery of a convience store and steal $200? Should they suffer years of punishment for what amounts to less than a weeks wages for most people? If someone comes into your house with the intention of killing you and taking your stuff should you administer an IQ test before you fight back or should you just shoot them? After all, they may have been mentally challenged.

All actions have consequences. People and nations both need to learn this. Misbehave and you're going to get smacked. That works with a 3 year old who won’t finish his peas, it works with a 40 year old who thinks he can drink and drive, and it works with third rate dictators and so called religious leaders who think they can attack another nation’s citizens.

    That would be proportional then.

But they didn't come at Israel to destroy it, the Hezbollah, did they? They took two soldiers hostage to use as leverage in negotitations, not to destroy Israel.

 You smack a child who won't eat his peas? You get a child who thinks violence is the right answer to whoever (smaller) crosses him. Good going.

It is ironic that you would think that way . . . I don't and I was smacked.

Now if you were abused, I could see your thinking that it was ok to injur others for 'crossing you'. That is typical of those that were abused. There is a correlation between abusive violence and adult misbehavior.

There is a correlation between discipline and adult proper behavior.

They illegally kidnapped two Military soldiers. then they refused to comply when requested to give them back. The lives of the soldiers were threatend. And it is a threat against other soldiers ans Israelis. if this is allowed to go on it will continue again and again. the reaponse was appropriate. This behavior needs to be squelched. And Hezzbollah has made its intentions known toward Israel. They want them gone. Hezzbollah is pure evil and needs to be destroyed.
