Actually, some of the more fundamental churches have homosexual ministers -- they just keep it secret.

 

But would they be a homosexual if they were celibate. Aren't YOU implying that you can tell a homosexual person by how they look or act?

It could happen soon, but I don't know if it will. When churches are denied tax-exempt status because of their "lack of tolerance", I suspect that a good many will capitulate and take the wide road. A church that I once attended is situated in a highly desireable business district , and the property is worth millions. Only a small crowd attended that church, when I was there, and if that church had to pay property taxes, it would be sunk. Churches could be forced to swallow the government's line or sell off the property and fade into the back-drop.

Don't read me wrong, now. I am against any compromise with the Sodomite crowd, even if they are backed by the government. I just offer the above scenario as an example of how it could happen.

Baptist churches hire and fire their own ministers. Those churches a majority of whose members believe (a) that the Bible sets forth definitive qualifications for pastors, and (b) that homosexual activity is incompatible with a call from God to pastoral ministry, will presumably continue to refuse to hire ministers who are known to be gay (and to dismiss those who come out of the closet in the pulpit); those whose understanding of scripture does not reach those conclusions will presumably continue not to make homosexuality a bar to ministerial vocation. There are certainly more openly gay Baptist ministers serving churches now than there were ten or fifteen years ago, and there are more churches now than then that have come to see sexual orientation (and, for that matter, gender itself) as no bar to ordination. In thirty or forty years I think it will be the majority, but it's not going to happen overnight, any more than the RC (or SBC) has come to accept women pastors just because the Methodists or ABC do.

The church I grew up in (University Baptist of Seattle) has had a gay Co-Pastor (Tim Phillips) for a decade or so, and since his Co-Pastor (Anne Hall, a straight woman) is resigning the end of this month, he will be the Pastor in toto.

Judging by the support of Tony Campolo at the CBF, I would not be surprised to see that in the CBF churches.

Campolo openly supports homosexuals and homosexual ministers.

 

"gay minister" is an oxymoron. It will never happen at a church of which I am a member. It is a deal breaker.

 

Where did you get this information. I've routinely heard the charge (always from people who are highly critical of him), but everything I've read that Campolo has written on the subject says the opposite.

Thankfully, we don't have bishops (as with the current case in the US Episcopal) that elevates a man into a powerful position.

IF a Baptist Church in Casper (any association)had an openly homosexual minister, I would work openly to see them G-O-N-E.

Thankfully our local fellowship is Independent, and autonomous. We do not have to conform to this world's value system, and if they take our building, facilities excetera, then we meet in homes. A Body of believers in the world but not of the world, solely dedicated to Christ.

We will continue to be Baptist through and through. We won't become United Church of Christ, compromising and sanctioning iniquity.

We will stand for God's Word. We won't rip asunder scripture and create a "god-lite", and lead those with itching ears straight to hell.

No. I'm implying if a homosexual is abstinent then they are a homosexual who isn't having sex. I'm not saying you can tell someone is a homosexual by how they look any more than I can see someone and know their religion, intelegence ect.

The difference between the two is that the homosexual is like an alcoholic - he's fighting his unnatural addiction everyday for the rest of his life. It's an abnormal state.

The abstinent heterosexual is normal and living up to the highest standard set by the New Testament for single Christians.

Just to clarify, there are already baptist ministers serving ABC, Alliance, and CBF churches. It's not a question of "will?" They are already here.

irRev Joshua is right about one thing. They are already in baptist churches. This is all part of the apostasy that is taking place according to the Word of God:
2Ti 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.

2Ti 3:2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

This will more than likely increase as the Lord's return get closer. However God's people will stand against it. It will not change what God is allowing and God's plan for the end of this age, but we are still to say NO to sin.

Homosexuals will continue to infiltrate our churches, homosexuality will continue to become more acceptable to succeeding generations, homosexuals will gain more positions of power, homosexuals will be afforded special rights, speaking out against homosexuality will become "hate" speech and will no longer be legal in this country, children will be exposed more often to homosexual educational material through our public schools, more of our children and grandchildren will "come out." It's a tide that's coming in, it's as sure as the sun rising. Homosexuals want it all, and they'll get it too. What they get, however, will not last, the souls they "win" and this earth that will pass away will be a sorry reward for their efforts, indeed, in terms of eternity.

It'll take more than dedicated, prayerful Christians to turn back this tide, it'll take a miracle.
