Well, yeah - mind-bogglingly stupid.....but besides that and the rocket thing?

The Palestinians finally did stop throwing rocks and got themselves human bombs.

It tells me Israel values human life, more than the Hezbos. I would demand the same from our leaders.

Israel can't win the war of propoganda. And just like scripture says, the whole world will turn against her.

If a man has his kid taken, and returned, completely unharmed, I would still support the death penalty for the kidnapper.

    That's where you & I differ, I guess.

How does killing hundreds of civilians compared to tens of civilians tell you that?

I thought they had won it here in the US. They might win it elsewhere but the disproportionality is rather glaring...

I'm probably a lot more sympathetic than I seem, btw.

If the kidnapper is the mother?

But yes, that is certainly one of the places we differ drastically.

Because Israeli soldiers don't hide in schools, they don't fire missles from ambulances,

Daisy, are you going to tell me that I'm wrong ? That the hezbos value life more than Israel ?

Disproportionality ? I don't get it. This was an act of war, and war is what they got.

And you know I didn't mean the mother.

But they bulldoze young women and shoot rock-throwing children.

No, not more, but not less either.

Was the act of war sanctioned by the Lebanese government or was it a rogue group the government was unable to control? The civilians have no say in the matter.

Ok, then how about those deranged babysitters?

They bulldoze Rachel Corrie, whom even Mother Jones called a "dangerous little twit". Rachel was responsible for teaching the Palestinian youth such life skills as burning Israeli & American flags, & using herself as a human barricade. She went looking for trouble, and found it. I have zero sympathy for her.

How many rocks can I throw at you before you shoot me ? Not too many, I would pray.

If a group of Americans did it to Canada, I would want our government to crush them, with extreme prejudice. I would expect Canada & America to work together, militarily, to eradicate the threats. I suspect Lebanon may not be behind the 8-ball, but soon will be.

They bulldozed a young woman who posed no threat to them. That is how much they value life.

    I wouldn't shoot you.

The US government is over 200 years old and centralized compared to the yearling Lebanese government. Even so, we don't control the vigilantes on the Southern border, do we?

I dont get this argument about porportionality. The objective in war is to destroy your enemy, not play games. Hezbolla needs to go and if the lebonese dont fight against them to run them out of their country then there is some amount of culpability. I would be surprised to find an American who would allow terrorists to come into this country and lob bombs at Canada or Mexico. Americans would arm themselves and take to the streets and rid our country of them. Period.

That's not surprising - those who see the world in black and white won't understand shades of gray.

Destroying your enemy is not a universally shared objective and I wouldn't call negotiating a settlement a game.

America hasn't been occupied by foreign powers for decades either. Many of the Hebollah are native with foreign funding (not so different from the Sinn Fein). We have lobbed bombs and more at Iraq which had not even kidnapped any of our soldiers - in what way are we better?

Sinn Fein, until they finally renounced violence, were apologists for terrorists. If Hezbollah renounces violence, then they can have a role in the peace process.

    Not until.

The biggest problem with a so called "proportional" response is the question of who decides what it is.

It's easy for Daisy to sit snug in here home and condemn Israel's response as disproportionate, but the mothers of several Israeli soldiers killed by Hezbollah's initial raid and the relatives of the soldiers kidnapped may not believe enough has been done.

Then there's the fact that Hezbollah launches attacks while using civilians as shields knowing some of them will be killed. That seems to be OK with some people while, at the same time, they are critical of Israel's response.

So the suggestion seems to be; since you killed eight of my people, I'll kill eight of yours.

That's a bad deal for Israel. They're badly outnumbered and always have been. By requiring a truly "proportional" response, one is advocating the complete destruction of the nation of Israel.

You and I will never agree on that young woman, so we shouldn't argue about her.

I couldn't promise the same thing.

We're not lobbing missles into Tijuana, either. I don't get that argument.

But good day to you, my worthy & estemed opponent. I'll be away for a while. Take care, Daisy.

You would kill her? Perhaps we should not get into that...

All the rocks I toss in your direction will be metaphorical.

We have occasional border skirmishes between US & Mexican nationals, but it has not escalated on either side. I have not heard of US officials cracking down on American vigilantiism (arguement from ignorance?)

Thank you for that. I'll miss you while you are away. Please take good care.

Hezzbollah does not want to negotiate. The criticism of Israel for lack of negotiation is a "red herring" everyone knows it cant be done but it is a tool used to beat up Israel. The Palestinians problem is not that they feel wronged, nor is it the issue with Iran or Syria. There problem is the destruction of Israel. And that is unacceptable.

    "Wont understand shades of grey"

You bet: Isaiah 5:20 woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil, ......

Hezzbolah is evil and all those who support them. that is pur black and white.

"shades of grey" are for those who want to justify their evil.

What evidence do you have for that? I thought the reason the two Israeli soldiers were kidnapped was solely to negotiate a prisoner exchange.

The Egyptians successfully negotiated a separate peace with Israel that has held for two decades and shows no sign of reverting to war. What do you know of the wrong the Palestinians feel?

The Palestinians also want not to be destroyed.

What do you know about Hezbollah to make such a statement? Shades of gray are for clear-eyed realists; it is about accepting reality.

Do you think that you have no evil or that you have no good? There is very little that is pure in this world..

More wars are lost by hating and misjudging one's enemies than by almost anything else.

Few humans on Earth are purely evil, and imagining so is a formula for disaster.
