    THE PRESENTATION OF THE WORD OF GOD IS VERY IMPORTANT BIBLE STUDENT AND NOT A TRIVIAL MATTER VERBAL ASSAULT IS NOT A VALID METHOD OF PREACHING ON A REGULAR BASIS ALTHOUGH IT IS UNDERSTANDABLE ON OCCASION IT MAKES THE SPEAKER HARD TO UNDERSTAND AND DISCERN AND THATS A VERY BAD QUALITY FOR A PREACHER TO POSSESS KNOW WHAT I MEAN PLUS ITS REALLY

    I'm wondering if the split of opinons here is because we have Calvinist and Free-Will responders! I noticed that some who are Calvinistic mentioned disliking fire and brimstone type preaching and others, like myself who believes in free will, mentioned evangelism or soul winning.

    Anyone else notice that?

    Wow, you're right! It's probably because us Calvinists would never dream of evangelizing or winning souls. That's crazy talk. We like to simply go to church and hear pastors talk about how we're saved and better than "them". [​IMG]

    I guess I have never had a problem understanding a preacher who makes a point by raining his voice once and a while. (but maybe I have never gone to a church and heard a Preacher like you have describe) I did not say that the shouting should be all the time. Your post goes to the extreem, I do not think anyone wants to hear someone yell all the time. But, I do like the idea that the Pastor can get excited about the things of God or is that only for baseball and football?

    That one you can shout :D
    But...the post really isn't about raising one's voice once in a while. It's about a certain type of preaching that some do on a regular basis.
    I'd link you to Baptist City's audio of Owens if it wasn't against my conscience to make someone listen to him on purpose.

    I am glad you took my last statement as I intended just for fun... :D

    And I do think I understand what you are saying as I listened for a short short time someone on TV that I had a hard time listening to. :(

    I think we would agree on this topic. The other side of this topic is the Preacher who can put you to sleep because there is no form of importance in their tone. [​IMG]

    I've heard the hell-fire and brimstone messages all my life. Most of the preachers I grew up hearing never had finished their primary educations, much less went on to receive seminary degrees. But, I never doubted their sincerity or their call to the ministry.

    Most of them adopted the style of preaching that was common in the areas where they grew up. But that is still true today! We have a more educated society and as such, the men God is calling into the ministry are also more educated. Their preaching styles already reflect this evolution.

    However, I've seen too many preachers stand in the pulpit and deliver ice cold sermons with no spirit, no excitement, and no power. I don't think preachers should act foolishly, but folks we have a message that is exciting! We have the gospel . . . "good news"! Remember? Isn't that something a preacher and congregation can get excited about?

    I'm a Calvinist and I love Hell Fire and Brimstone sermons! like that Calvinist George Whitefield.

    I have actually heard some "preach" so loud that I could not decipher their words.

    Some I have heard were so fat they couldn't articulate properly and sweating like they ran a marathon.

    True, Heavenboand, but this was not an isolated incident.

    His idea of "study" was to flip back and forth the night before (or right before) and take whatever caught his eye. Run a few cross-references, mark a couple of pages, and fill in the rest with opinion and volume.

    Yes, God can use any man. But man can also shirk his responsibility to God and his flock.

    My main beef is not with volume, but content.

    If a man of God stands before a congregation without study, without a starting point, some type of organized content, and a stopping point, he needs to sit down and shut his mouth.

    So many "preachers" today sling their opinions and pet peeves at their congregations, all in the name of "preaching." Why? Why do they rant and snort and carry on, but in no way deliver the whole counsel of God?

    Is it too much to ask that they at least prepare a little? That they have a main idea and something to support it (besides "David of old..." and "Job of old..." and "PRAISE GOD! AMEN! HALLELUJAH!")? Is that just too much to ask?

    I agree with you 100% and it is not too much to ask that a preacher study God's word and be prepared. I think that they should. to give a good through message. yes you are right.
