Amazing turn of events, isn't it. How many times, how many times, have you all posted on here against Obama this or Obama that, and posted the praises of the conservative values of George W. Bush as President. This is especially true of his picks to the Supreme Court. As you historical scholars remember, Bush picked Roberts, not just to be Justice, but Chief Justice. I do not believe any further explanation is needed, except that Bush the First picked Suiter. Has it finally gotten through some thick skulls that Republicans have not been conservative for decades?

I agree with you, SN. GW Bush was not a conservative. Nixon was the president who set up the insurance industry for-profit with the help of Congress. He opened the Pandora's box.

    Read Nixon's speech here - February 6, 1974:

    http://www.kaiserhealthnews.org/stories/2009/september/03/nixon-proposal.aspx

    History of Health Care here:

    http://www.pbs.org/healthcarecrisis/history.htm

In later years, Richard Nixon mellowed and some of this thoughts are penned in this piece:

    http://thenewnixon.org/2010/02/22/richard-nixon-on-health-care-in-74-94-and-today/

When GW Bush first took office, I believed him to be a Conservative. However, after 09/11 and I started digging around, I found he was more of a RINO. I did not vote for him the second time around.

John McCain, though serving his country and becoming a POW is not a Conservative and I never believed him to be, based on his voting record as a Senator. Also, just recently found out he knew of the fraud in the last election but did not challenge obama about it (as posted in another thread). He is a RINO.

They are all pretty well hooked to the big money and lobbyists.

I guess you have it on record here on the BB that I always had it figured SCOTUS would uphold obamacare and Justice Roberts would be a turncoat. Guess I was right.

We will never recognize our country 4 years from now. We have failed to leave a legacy of greatness and freedom for our children and grandchildren and great grandchildren. The blood shed for America by my forefathers has been wasted drop by drop through the last several decades and finally pooled at the feet of the Statue of Liberty today. :tear:

That Republican Congressman Henry Hyde warned us many years ago: "The Constitution is irrelevant." It made me angry when he said it, but he spoke the truth about the way things are, not the way I and millions of other fellow Americans and Conservatives want it to be, hope it is, and how it is supposed to be according to the Founding Fathers.

A GIANT STEP TOWARDS SOCIALISM WAS CONFIRMED TODAY. :tear:

I don't know. Roberts may have given the Republicans a Trojan Horse. Now that SCOTUS has declared ObamaCare's non-compliance fee as a tax, the Republicans can spin the individual mandate as the largest tax increase on the low and middle class in history. Imagine all the healthy young people in their 20's and 30's without health insurance that will be hit with a tax of 1% of their income. By 2016 it will be 2.5% of their income. So a young person earning $30,000 will have to pay $750 a year to not have insurance.

I think the low to middle class people that don't get health insurance through their workplace and have to buy it or pay the fine will come to regard ObamaCare with derision and will loathe Democrats.

We need to think this through and not just react and call names because we do not like the law. Roberts is a strong conservative and the SC shot down the mandate based on the commerce clause but said that there is no limits in the constitution for taxing.

So unless someone can show in the constitution that there is limits by the fed on taxation I would like to see it. Outside of that what your doing is nothing mrre than reacting and calling names out of emotion and not reason.

    Reason, on this board?

Here's "reason" on BB. Condensed from all the threads in the political forum since my join date. (with the exception of my threads and a very few others ... and remember you all call us the "crazy ones")

That is ridiculous. Taxing people for not buying a product, is in NO WAY constitutional. It is a direct assault on the "pursuit of happiness." As one judge said today, government will now be able to tax people who do not buy vegetables, or who don't eat other healthy foods.

This is an affront to liberty and decency.

Meanwhile back at the international banker's and global corporation's boardrooms they polish the silverware and drool anticipating the coming feast of our souls.

Have you ever read the Constitution? Your post sounds like you are making a case for unlimited taxation and larger government. Obama will be glad to get your vote. Read the amendment that authorized income tax. One must produce something, like goods, services, income, to be taxed on it. How does one tax nothing?

Why is it Bush's fault Roberts is a turncoat? Was he supposed to consult a seer before appointing him?

Roberts would not have had the chance to vote on this ruling under Bush as Bush would not have sought universal healthcare.

I was thinking more along the lines of the government taxing us for not buying solar panels or electric cars, but you make a good point.

That's a trade off most healthy young people will love..and take advantage of. As soon as they develop a serious illness, they will enroll and pay the same as everyone else has for years.

While the rest of us pay something like 10-20% of our income for health insurance.

Yep. If I was 25, I'd jump all over that deal.

Roberts went through the most convoluted thinking process to reach this decision that I can imagine.

It's as if he was looking for a reason to uphold it instead of just applying the constitution.

It almost looks like he was bought.

Ok, I will not argue with you but show me where in the constitution that it is not. And why do you know better than Roberts?

Actually Roberts may have done folks a favor. Heard on TV tonight, believe it was the AG of Texas, that because the mandate was defined as a tax it would only take 51 votes in the Senate to repeal it, not 60. Don't know is he was right or not.

Also Jindal of Louisiana said they were not going to set up the insurance exchanges.

    Article I, Section 2, Clause 3:

Representatives and direct taxes shall be apportioned among the several States which may be included within this Union, according to their respective Numbers...[1]
    Article I, Section 8, Clause 1:

The Congress shall have Power to lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States.
    Article I, Section 9, Clause 4:

No Capitation, or other direct, Tax shall be laid, unless in proportion to the Census or Enumeration herein before directed to be taken

    16th Amendment
The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration.

Yes, I have read the Constitution. How does Congress tax an unknown entity or a negative, such as not having health insurance? How is not having health insurance income, or a property tax? Is not having health insurance interest on a bank account or a capital gain? If I followed your logic, I would send you a tax bill for not buying cigarettes, beer, meth, or buying x rated movies? We could call it an anti-vice tax. Common sense has to go along with wording.

I did not present any logic. All I said was show me where Roberts was wrong. Ans what do you mean by an unknown entity?
