Falwell pointed out that Liberty University is pro-life and “believes that marriage between one man and one woman provides the best environment for children.”

“Liberty University will not lend its name or financial support to any student group that advances causes contrary to its mission,” he wrote.

There is no liberty that states that one is entitled to the name or financial support of another.

Of course not, but Democratic students pay student fees also. It is their money too.

But then we all know that Liberty is a fundie brainwashing factory and political action committee disguised as a University.

Amen! This is a private school that stands for the Word of God and they should not be compelled to finance and recognize the ungodly party that recognizes homosexuality and abortion.

Does this mean Liberty will not allow any student to enter the university who pays their fees with government scholarships and loans? Currently the admit students who have government grants and loans. I wonder if discriminating against students with a political view they do not like puts them in conflict with government guidelines? I am not sure. It would seem they are walking a fine line on this one.

Will this impact Liberty's tax-exempt status?

I'm not sure that I see the problem with this.

They are not being told to disband.

They are not being told that they can not meet.

They are allowed to meet on campus.

The school simply is saying that they will not lend their name or fund the club.

    What is the big deal?

Simple - "EITHER YOU TAKE THE PC ROUTE, OR YOU ARE BEING EVERYTHING THE LIBS SPOUT AGAINST, BUT, IN ACTUALITY, PRACTICE!"

True freedom is only for the "tolerant" preachers but not doers. IE: The same folk who want you to support the lazy via taxes, while many of the elitist refuse to pay their taxes.

Besides, these yokels certainly have the option of not attending this "FUNDAMENTAL" university; but that's the way the libs work. They go to a fundy U and then complain that their liberal views aren't tolerated.

Funny how they seem to overlook the squashing of free speech in the public U's that DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO SQUELCH AN OPINION, but do it anyway.

And NO, I am not going to Google this info for you libs - if you truly want to know you're on the internet - use it!!!!

I am proud of Liberty U. for taking this stance. Of course that means they will be attacked by Satan and his followers.

I don't know about ole John. Funny thing is my best friend attends the same church he does and is one of the finest Christians I have ever met. John would be surprised to find out this man isn't a republican.

Such hyperbole. Such vitriol. You sure hate it when conservative Christians don't tow the PC line. Liberty has every right to fund and support who and what it wants.

So how do you think it is fair to take student funds from all students, but only support the Republican group? I guarantee you would be singing from a different book if this were reversed. And before you start the typical whining about how public universities are liberal hotbeds, I don't recall any state university banning recognition of Republican student organizations.

You are making an assumption that any group receives actual funding. I see no wording in the article that supports that assumption.

As to being "fair" - is it fair to students who do not belong to any group for any group to receive funding - if in fact that is the case.

What about being "fair" to a group that any random student may want to start like "Students for Druids" or "Students for Martians" or whatever.

Where does it say "student funds"? Is there some agreement that says "student funds" will be disbursed equally?

What if a group called "Liberty Atheists" or "Liberty for Abortion" started on campus - should they receive funds too?

Perhaps it would be best if Liberty did not give any college funds to any political organization or let any such organization use the words Liberty University.

It's ok for public colleges to discriminate is such a manner, but let a private conservative college do it and the liberals holler foul. How many conservative professors get jobs in your average four year, public college or private for that matter? It's about the same as finding an IBF preacher hanging out in the local bar. I'm glad that Liberty is not afraid to stand up to the statuesque.
