This is crazy! How do they know the guy didn't lose the jewelry or hide it? There's no real proof either way.

This is what happens when boys want to look like girls and get their ears pierced. . .:tonofbricks:

According to the story, it seems certain his jewelry came up missing.

The amount awarded by the court may or may not be out of line, since there is no real appraisal of all the pieces involved.

By what little description of the jewelry is given, I suspect the amount awarded was high.

I didn't notice the value of the jewelry listed. So it's hard to say. However, if his property was in their care, it should have been safeguarded rather than stolen. The principle seems correct.

seems he would have to prove the value of the jewlry, they can not accurately make an award without it, so yes, I think it was way too much money.

Since we don't have the actual value, we should err on the side of generosity. Maybe these law-enforcement people will be more careful in the future.

Just more proof that there are thieves working for the police. There should be an investigation into what happened to the jewelry. If the thief is found (even if it's a police officer) he should be arrested and charged with a crime. It must have been worth enough to make stealing it worth the risk.
