Why is it any of my business? Does your local church publish vote tallies of congregational meetings?

First - I would assume there were hundreds if not thousands of votes. If I were one of those voters, I would want to know the results. Since I am not a member ( hmm - I wonder if they allow males to join ) it is not imperative that I personally know the results - just curious why they think they need to keep it under wraps.

As far as our church business meetings - the minutes are open to anyone who would like to read them. Any vote would be public knowledge. The only variance would be in calling a pastor. Our constitution is set up so that a man (not a woman) needs to have a 75 % affirmate to be extended a call. Now, if he gets between 75 & 99%, we will have a "second ballot" The purpose of this vote is to give those who voted no (in our church, we only consider on candidae at a time) to vote yes - which in essence is a vote of confidence - therefore the committee can inform the candidate he was called with an 100% vote.

Otherwise, everything is pertty much an open book - as we would want to present ourselves to the community as being above reproach.

In our congregation the Church Council announces the winner and never gives the totals. (far as I know) Been doing it this way for 50 years with no complaints.

Well, if your church ever takes up the cause of supporting abortion as rabidly as the NOW, I'll insist on looking at your totals.
