JUSTICE GINSBURG: Yes, the ruling about that surprised me. [Harris v. McRae — in 1980 the court upheld the Hyde Amendment, which forbids the use of Medicaid for abortions.] Frankly I had thought that at the time Roe was decided, there was concern about population growth and particularly growth in populations that we don’t want to have too many of. So that Roe was going to be then set up for Medicaid funding for abortion. Which some people felt would risk coercing women into having abortions when they didn’t really want them. But when the court decided McRae, the case came out the other way. And then I realized that my perception of it had been altogether wrong.

"...particulary growth in populations that we don't want to have too many of..."

What does she mean by that? Can you imagine the outburst if a Republican appointee would have said something like this? He or she would be impeached.

What an odd thing for someone named Ginsburg to say.

And yet, some Christians on this board have said they want more SCOTUS justices in the mold of Ginsburg. Mind-boggling.

Population control, animal control, abortion and climate change are all related in the bigger picture.

“Socialists and social-democrats agree that with increasing globalization and, in particular, increasing integration of financial markets, there is need for a global regulator of these markets as well as an institution that can help countries that experience financial crisis. Markets do need regulation and supervision, and when they have become global, these functions must also be global. Moreover, the developing countries generally, and even more so, the least developed countries, should have access to concessional resources, both, because they cannot cover the costs of providing for global public goods from which everyone benefits such as environmental protection, disease control and security and, as a matter of international solidarity, there should be some redistribution of income from the most fortunate to those most in need also across national borders.”

By now you should be beginning to appreciate how the new world order will work. The UN Security Council will become stacked with members undoubtedly approved by Socialist International, and the USA will lose its power of veto, substantially or even entirely. Because of new funding streams from carbon taxes and a global financial transaction tax, the UN will have its own revenue and be capable of putting its own “peacekeeping” military force into action. Meanwhile, the new Sustainable Development Council will have the same draconian powers to direct how the world economy should develop and how resources should be collected and spent. Countries wishing to dispute would get a hearing in the UN General Assembly, but if they didn’t have the political support they could be ordered to tow the line or face increasingly harsh sanctions from the UN community. (international community)

Sounds like you are "beginning to appreciate how the new world order will work" Rev.

Revmitchell, I read the article. It seems Justice Ginsburg is saying she feared Roe would be used by the state to force abortion on these women through Medicaid.

She had already stated she had represented a woman in the Airforce that was being coerced into having an abortion by the Airforce if she wanted to remain active duty. The Airforce changed its policy before it went before the SCOTUS.

There is no doubt Ginsburg supports abortion rights. But she is not saying she favored use of abortion to control certain populations. She is saying that she feared that would be done by the government, but was mistaken.

    peace to you:praying:

==Hi canadyjd. I agree with you on this point. She makes it very clear that her initial "perception of it had been altogether wrong". What was that "perception"? That there was a "concern about population growth and particularly growth in populations that we don’t want to have too many of". She states clearly that this was something she "had thought that at the time Roe was decided" but later "realized that my perception of it had been altogether wrong". That is a far cry from what some of my fellow conservatives are saying she said.

I believe you are correct. My initial understanding was wrong.

I do not know what your brand of conservatism is but do not lump me in with it.

    You are a scholar and a gentleman.

Let's pray she will realize she was also wrong about abortion simply being a "choice", and spend her time trying to save those babies instead.

    peace to you:praying:
