MP, would you agree with me that the lawmakers need to slow down and read the bill to understand it? If they would do that, they would earn a little respect from me...

Why the rush to get it passed...

I think what Americans want is for them to slow down.. and digest the thing.

That is not too much to ask...

If I could understand it, I may like it.

I don't like pushy salesmen.. and that is what Capital Hill seems like.. .And it's not a Republican or Democrat thing with me.. .I was furious last fall when Bush tried this tactic...

It is a fundamental basic that if a senator or rep. vote on something, they should understand what they are voting for....

And at this point, very few do...
It's all a game to them.

I agree it should be read, debated, digested, and unintended consequences explored. I don't want it to take months, but it should be fully understood. Rushed bills that are not read tend to be bad law...e.g. The USA PATRIOT Act.

Wow we agree... I also don't think it should be held up because of partisan politics... but if it takes a few months to get it right... to make sure it works good... then take the time.

And both sides are guilty of both, rushing a bill.. and playing politics... for instance, can anyone tell me how a filibuster is ever anything other than playing politics?

And both sides do it.

ONE thing about Obama... Americans have become engaged in the political arena more now than I have ever seen, and that's a good thing.

That means hopefully that apathy is disappearing.

While I don't think either of these bills are perfect, I don't buy into the spin that the righties are using. This is more fearmongering, which seems to be right out of their play book. Instead, they should offer a plan of their own, rather than purposefully pulling sections out of context and using them to build fear.

My contention is, "Why?" Why should there be an "alternative plan" offered to this, if we disagree with the basic premise...the premise that it isn't "the public's" job to provide healthcare for everyone?

In addition...I would say that BOTH sides have been known to use the "sky is falling" tactics: Bush used those to pass that gosh-awful recovery bill. Obama has used it for helping us and the UAW to buy GM. Now, proponents of this legislation stress we must pass it yesterday.
