Another Incoherent Health-Care Poll in the New York Times

,,,,,,,,,,The New York Times poll reported that 72% of a sample of “randomly” chosen respondents (of whom 48% had voted for Obama and only 25% for McCain last November, question #100), said they’d approve of the federal government giving everyone the option of enrolling in a Medicare-like program. Case closed? Not at all.

Comparing this month’s results with those from 1993, only 57% are willing to see their taxes go up to fund the “public option,” versus 61% back in the days of HillaryCare (#59). And of that shrunken number of enthusiastic taxpayers, only 43% would be willing to see their taxes go up by even $500, a ridiculously small amount. Let’s say that there are 100 million taxpaying households in the U.S.: $500 would raise $50 billion, which is about 2% of the nation’s health-care tab. Every serious analyst recognizes that “covering all Americans” to the standard the insured enjoy today would cost a multiple of that amount. New York Times Poll Showing 72% Support for Obama's Health Care Plan Was Stacked

(CNSNews.com) - A New York Times/CBS News poll released Saturday that showed broad bipartisan support for President Obama’s health care reform, over-sampled Obama voters compared to McCain voters, critics say.

The poll, administered June 12-16, found that 72 percent of respondents favored the creation of a government health-insurance plan that would compete with private insurers.

It also said 50 percent of respondents thought the government would do a better job providing medical coverage than private insurers, up from 30 percent in 2007; and that 59 percent thought the government would be better at holding down costs, up from 47 percent two years ago.

But critics including pollster Kellyanne Conway say the results are inaccurate because they are heavily skewed toward those who voted for Obama in the 2008 presidential election.

53% Now Oppose Congressional Health Care Reform

The health care reform legislation working its way through Congress has lost support over the past month. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that 44% of U.S. voters are at least somewhat in favor of the reform effort while 53% are at least somewhat opposed.

Today’s 44% level of support is down from 46% two weeks ago, and 50% in late June.

Gallup says roughly the same. The only polls I have seen that don't agree are Fox and Rasmussen.

You will find that when a poll disagrees with our resident extreme right-wing segment, it is always an unreliable or incoherent poll. Now, if the results back the Rush Limbaugh (the real leader of the GOP) talking points, then the poll can be trusted.
