Bill would give president emergency control of Internet
    by Declan McCullagh

Internet companies and civil liberties groups were alarmed this spring when a U.S. Senate bill proposed handing the White House the power to disconnect private-sector computers from the Internet.

They're not much happier about a revised version that aides to Sen. Jay Rockefeller, a West Virginia Democrat, have spent months drafting behind closed doors. CNET News has obtained a copy of the 55-page draft of S.773 (excerpt), which still appears to permit the president to seize temporary control of private-sector networks during a so-called cybersecurity emergency.

The new version would allow the president to "declare a cybersecurity emergency" relating to "non-governmental" computer networks and do what's necessary to respond to the threat. Other sections of the proposal include a federal certification program for "cybersecurity professionals," and a requirement that certain computer systems and networks in the private sector be managed by people who have been awarded that license.

Seems somewhat reasonable. After all, the primary purpose of the Interstate Highway System is national defense, and they would be closed to civilian traffic in a national emergency. I imagine all sorts of infrastructure could be temporarily placed under federal control in dire circumstances.

    You are a hypocrite.

I remember your reaction to the Patriot Act.

The only media left to oppose the ideas of the Obama facists is the internet and talk radio.

They want to shut them both down.

And you are too logically challenged to understand the difference between secret searches of your home, your library records, your book purchases, etc. and the government temporarily taking infrastructure offline to curtail a cyber attack. But of course, it is just another opportunity for one of your infamous ad hominems.

And that is why the left supports it. The hypocrisy does not only cover things like this and the Patriot Act, but look at how they now support "air raiding villages & killing civilians" now that a democrat is doing it.

I wonder how many small businesses would go under with an indefinite internet freeze ?

Obama is among the Marxist elite in this country and a toady of George Soros and his ilk who bought the presidency for him.

I would think, to anyone who uses a modicum of common sense, it would be blatenly obvious that there is some power(s) behind this awkward presidential wannabe that had the oomph (political, smarts, power, money, etc--) to promote such an un-known entity from obscurity to the most powerful position in the world.

He certainly did not have the smarts to achieve it on his own, so what are his handlers looking for??

1 A glib speaker who can mesmerize the population with his silver tongue
2 A willing puppet who has no loyalties to any but his backers
3 One who has no reservations to destroying anything/anyone who opposes him
4 One who is willing to "sell his soul to the devil" to get the desired ends

And these are just the obvious up-front characteristics that are required.

This guy is perfect for the "behind-the-scene" handlers since the populace (at least many) are so duped by his charisma that he can do anything and it's "exactly what's needed for our ills"; and any criticism of ANY policy is RACIST only, and has squat to do with common sense.

And the beat goes on & on & on -----------.:BangHead:

You really believe that don't you Crabby?

Imagine the leftest screaming had Bush suggested this and I'm sure it was an eventual part of the plan. I would have been wrong then just as it is now. But, the screaming is so much less now that the messiah has been elected president by the masses (many of which, I would bet, are regretting their decison).

Well, Crabby, I guess that the joke went over my head.

How did the majority of the people of the USA buy the presidency for Obama?

It really gets tiresome sometimes with a select few here on the board who never seem capable of reading with any attention to detail.

Bingo. They already control the TV news and newspapers. Once they gain control of the internet and talk radio, we might as well say hello to all-out communism, goodbye to free speech.

You just can't get it that the majority of popular and electoral votes were gained by the President.

You can call it "ad hominems" if you wish . That doesn't change the fact that you are a hypocrite.

Since when did the First amendment become less important than the Fourth?

Only since Obama became president and only to sycophants and hypocrites.
