Salty, something tells me that this soldier is a gold brick looking for special treatment. We are not getting the whole story. Even the Army isn't going to force a mother to put her child in government foster care.

Thats what a (un-informed) supervisor told her - supposedly.

I say let the Dad take care of his child!

IIRC, he maximum penalty can bea dishonorable discharge, forfeiture of pay and seven years in prison, but isn't it common to suspend prison sentences in these case, unless there's an underlying reason? Just wondering there.

BTW, I totally agree with the "let the father take care of it" comment.

If I Recall Correctly. Don't feel bad, I only learned that a few months ago.

Maybe I read it too fast, but I didn't see a "DAD" mentioned. Did I miss something?

All I saw was "a single mother---"

In any case maybe the dad had been considered, and dismissed for some reason (unknown, jail, bum, etc); or maybe never even considered.

Sounds like this gal got some yo-yo giving her advice though - OR - she is just trying to get out of her obligation and this looked like a good avenue to use.

    From the article:
How many days is a few? Sounds like she had time to make an alternate plan but did not. I would discharge her - she needs to find a new line of work.

She shouldnt be forced to leave her child to go anywhere. She might never see her child again. Even as a veteran myself, I do not agree with jail time or discharge. Generally, I believe in following all the rules and regulations of the military, but sometimes what they demand is too demanding. Their punishments for people thinking for themselves is too harsh. In the military you can't have an opinion or self will; you simply do what you're told without question--or else!

However, I would go with an honorable discharge if her circumstances prevent her from doing ehr job. NO one should be in any job (whether military or civilian) that they cannot do to their fullest.

Jail or discharge? Discharge. We should not deploy women anyway.

"Single mother" doesn't mean there's no dad, it means mom & dad weren't married at the time the OP story was written.

What should the military expect when they accept fertile young women into the service? A single parent's first obligation is to her/his child/ children.

If the army could keep her employed since 2007.... why can't it continue to find work for her which allows her to also be a mother to her child? .......Or maybe the problem exists in their willingness/eagerness to accept any recruit just to fill recruiting quotas without concern for ability to server wherever called?
