Rage on the Right

From the Southern Poverty Law Center ...............

Why is there so little condemnation of these groups?

The radical right caught fire last year, as broad-based populist anger at political, demographic and economic changes in America ignited an explosion of new extremist groups and activism across the nation.

Hate groups stayed at record levels — almost 1,000 — despite the total collapse of the second largest neo-Nazi group in America. Furious anti-immigrant vigilante groups soared by nearly 80%, adding some 136 new groups during 2009. And, most remarkably of all, so-called "Patriot" groups — militias and other organizations that see the federal government as part of a plot to impose “one-world government” on liberty-loving Americans — came roaring back after years out of the limelight.

The anger seething across the American political landscape — over racial changes in the population, soaring public debt and the terrible economy, the bailouts of bankers and other elites, and an array of initiatives by the relatively liberal Obama Administration that are seen as "socialist" or even "fascist" — goes beyond the radical right. The "tea parties" and similar groups that have sprung up in recent months cannot fairly be considered extremist groups, but they are shot through with rich veins of radical ideas, conspiracy theories and racism.

“We are in the midst of one of the most significant right-wing populist rebellions in United States history,” Chip Berlet, a veteran analyst of the American radical right, wrote earlier this year. "We see around us a series of overlapping social and political movements populated by people [who are] angry, resentful, and full of anxiety. They are raging against the machinery of the federal bureaucracy and liberal government programs and policies including health care, reform of immigration and labor laws, abortion, and gay marriage."

It's interesting that he says "the Right" in the title but then includes this little comment in the article itself...

"The anger seething across the American political landscape... goes beyond the radical right."

I would seem that many of the issues that are the source of this so-called rage would be important to those on the far right, the far left, and those in between.

Bailouts
Deficit spending
Tax increases
Illegal immigration
Huge national debt
Unemployment
Mortgage defaults

So what is your point, Crabby?

This, and most of his recent posts, should be called 'Rage from Crabby'. The guy has an obvious hatred for anyone he considers 'right wing' and is just grasping at anythng he can to try and discredit the 'right wing'.

Crabby, while you try and locate isolated incidents from wackos that the media identifies as 'right wing', we'll all continue to mourn the millions of deaths a year your party is responsible for by way of abortion.

Just trying to balance the board where the majority of the political threads are anti-liberal and anti-Obama. Are you concerned about any of the far out postings in some of those threads?

The Southern Poverty Law Center is a highly respected organization.

Did you read the article?

What far out postings? Can you point some out specifically?

Instead of trying to balance out the board by seeking out tons of isolated cases of wackos and trying to associate them with the 'right wingers', why don't you just let the board flow naturally and accurately represent its membership?

No different than your hatred for the left-wing.

The difference is I openly acknowledge that I have a hatred of the policies of the left-wing. I hate the policies of abortion, socialism, bigger government, anti-gun, anti-freedom, etc. Crabby likes to act like he is some sort of neutral observer.

You don't know that he isn't. You are assuming.

His point is...that he is afraid...his continual posting of "far right" extremists points towards his anxiety, and perhaps he has reason to fear...perhaps all libs do.

Southern Poverty Law Center is a large collection of fecal matter...they have less credibility than the boys at Stormfront.

I do not hate liberals - the problem is that often they do not want to look at the facts.

Which facts - well to begin with - it is not goverments job to be my nanny

Well, how about engaging in the discussion then?

What are you thoughts about the author's observation that the rage goes beyond the Right?

What are your thoughts? You brought the topic up. Are you willing to answer or just continue to whine.

Frankly, I have yet to see anyone demonstrating and saying, "I am outraged the government is not bigger." Have you?

Oh, and you need to edit your post in another thread, I answered your question.

You're full of it.

The SPLC is a joke--it is a partisan hack organization that wouldn't know the truth if it bit them on their backside.

The top dogs of SPLC live a lavish lifestyle--fruits of their labor as shakedown artists and rumor-mongers.

Not that I expect you to be found in the same zip code as truth...

The SPLC was part of the group that filed lawsuit against the 10 commandments in the court room. Yes, certainly an organization that we as Christians should respect!
