This just in

Is it possible will not delay his retirement any longer, because, he if does, there may be a new Republican majority in the Senate - and his replacement would be a major campaign issue?

Good riddance. At least the liberal that Obama appoints will not have the tenure that Stevens had, and maybe the new SCJ liberal will lean more conservative in years to come, unlike Stevens. If God allows the time, then time will tell.

Dont count on it

No one new is going to have the tenure that Stevens has, that comes from time on the Supreme Court bench. It can't be given.

President Obama will have a hard time trying to find a more liberal judge. Stevens is another fine example a Republican appointee.

THis won't be a big to-do. We're going to see one leftist replaced with another one.
I doubt there's much of a fight...unless the Community Organizer's choice is so wacked-out as to be scary. Of course, now that is entirely possible...

I know being associated with a 'liberal' will ruin your reputation, but I agree with your sentiment.

My issue is not not so much liberal v conservative but loose constructionist vs strict constructionist. All I want are justices who believe that the Constitution means what it says it means.
