The Grand Ole Opry building is flooded

The Oil spill is from God.. it is people's answers to prayers.. I mean how many illegals will swim across oil to get to the Promised Land?

If I recall correctly Ryman build the building due to the meetings that the Methodist preacher Sam Jones had in Nashville. A great preacher from yesterday.

You're correct about the Ryman, but the Grand Ole Opry program left that venue back in the 1970's. They moved to a new facility outside the downtown Nashville area. This new one was the one that is flooded.

I know that most of the previous comments were made in jest, but many people in various parts of Nashville are going through some really tough times right now. I personally knew of one dear Christian lady (Baptist pastor's wife) who was killed in the aftermath of the flooding.

Check out www.compassionatehope.org and www.lighthouseministries.org for some pictures of what the flooding did to some of my own church's property.

The building that was swept away we had called the Hope Building. It's destroyed, but our real Hope is very much alive. If just one soul comes to know Christ as a result of this then it's worth the loss.

Remember the many hurting folks in Nashville and Middle Tennesse in your prayers. Thanks.

Remembering you and your community in prayer!
I heard tonight's radio state 18 people have lost their lives due to this flood.
Also that some motorist were stranded/caught in the sudden rise of waters for as long as 20 hours before rescue.... and though some were far from home.... like America has been in the past... at its best during a disaster... the suffering people in cars and in the neighborhood surrounding became their own 'new' community... sharing what provisions they had on hand to spare... of food, comfort, water to others who had need.

While not responsible for the floods.... Some of the credit for being caught 'off guard' should go to ........who else???? ........The army corps of engineers...... the 'experts'....... who predicted the rivers would 'crest' 5 feet below that which they did..... at 48 feet instead of 53. 13 inches of rain fell in less than 24 hours. Whew! That's a LOT of water.

Thanks brother, for putting me back on track. I shall be praying for the folks up there.

I should have knew about the move, I even went and rode the rides and saw a lot of shows in the park back in the mid to late 70's. I believe all the rides and shows are gone now, closed except for the Opry.

It looks like a good time for Christians to touch the lives of a lot of people in Nashville now. From reading many need help!! Pray all is well with you.

I don't understand the criticism here. Who could possibly be prepared for as much rain as we got last weekend?

Well........ (which is apparently a deep subject)




Isn't it better for experts to keep their mouth shut....

instead of playing the fool and giving people false hope?

Aren't we all a little like..... open our mouth and remove all doubt .....fools at times? You think it is unfair to call it like it is when decisions which are made by people like you and me may be based upon the 'best' advice we are given....... by these "experts"?

But, at times like these... the wrong guesses by experts produce delays in terms of precautions, people's safety and lives.

So..... yeah..... if you're an expert, and you have more info than I do, which constitutes a rainfall in inches and the rise of river waters.... and the flows which can be increased downstream and locations and capacities of spill ways and reservoirs to accompany more water... and give me your expert opinion on which I base crucial decisions to secure MY family in place or to evacuate most prized 'possessions'....... you darn right.... if your off by an estimate this substantial.... and this was BIG underestimate.... I'll call on what I consider stupidity.

You're right. The River Plantation subdivision is about a mile from my house. I've spent three days this week helping with the clean-up there. Today I was at a church member's house in the county south of here. Tomorrow we're working on another church member's house. We have about eight families with some level of flooding in their houses. I had no flooding, but we were stranded for a couple of days because of flooded streets around us. There have been a couple of news reports today about looting and theft, but, considering the number of people affected by this disaster, these incidents are a minor problem. The number of people who have stepped forward to help with the clean-up has been very gratifying. We had a church group of kids at the house where I was working yesterday. They had obviously figured out the best way to get the drywall out of the house. By the time I left yesterday evening, there was only a little drywall left to be pulled down today.

Also, someone said that we had gotten 13 inches of rain in 24 hours. That is half right. We had just under 6 inches on Saturday, and just over 7 inches on Sunday. That broke several state records for rainfall. We're expecting some thunderstorms tonight.

Opryland theme park was dismantled a few years back. Many of us hated to see it go because it was one of the few places to which a family could go for some relatively clean amusement. In its place they erected the Opry Mills shopping mall, which of course along with the Opryland Resort & Convention Center [a/k/a Opryland Hotel] and the Grand Ole Opry House were flooded.

Timsings pointed out some of the damage done in his part of the Nashville area. I've heard that Nashville's mayor has come up with an estimate of at least a billion dollars worth of damage has been done.

Yet through all of this, I believe we will ultimately come out for the better! People and churches are joining hands to help their neighbors like they've never done before!

In my own church's experience, many things are happening that we never expected. Some four years ago some of our people came together to form a disaster relief team to help out those on the Gulf Coast who were affected by Katrina. Now they are using the experience they gained from their 30 trips there to help out right here in our own community. Moreover, people from all walks of life are helping to restore some of our buildings that were flooded. We are both thankful and humbled by the outpouring of help that God is sending our way!!

All of this is going to require lots of effort on the part of many people--effort in working, giving and praying. God allowed this to happen for a reason. It's my hope and prayer that through all of this there will be souls saved and relationships with our Lord renewed and solidified.
