Hi all,

I've been listening to comments on AFR lately about this new proposed comedy central television show called JC. It is cartoon about a Jesus who sets out to oppose his father and I'm sure will be very demeaning towards Christianity. The show hasn't been 100% approved but looks to be soon. For me, I don't ever really watch Comedy Central for it is mostly trash anyway, but as Christians should we stand against such blasphemy or is it better just to ignore it.

I used to like Short Attention Span Theater and MST3K.

Now, no TV, no Comedy Central. I like it better this way.

By the way, my dad's initials are JC.

So you really cut out TV all together? Is this just you or your whole family? I love TV, probably too much, but I truly feel we are very responsible with what we watch. I would say 99% of what me and my wife watch is either Christian TV or news and documentary. Now my daughter is a different story. She does watch some reality TV (yuk) that stuff really annoys me.

Why did you stop watching TV?

I figure if the Lord has a problem with people blaspheming His name, then He is more capable of doing something about it than I am.

It should anger everyone who loves the Lord Jesus Christ. I mean, this is the Lord of glory. This is the creator. This is our redeemer. This is God, who came down from heaven, was made flesh, took upon Him the sins of His people and died an excruciating death on the cross to reconcile us to the Father. He has a name that is above all others.

This is blasphemy pure and simple and Christians should condemn as such. I guarantee you that if they made a show lampooning Muhammed, the Muslims would be up in arms and sending death threats. Now, we shouldn't send death threats, don't misunderstand me here. But I think it would be a good thing if Christians showed their displeasure over such a blasphemous show as this.

I believe we are called particularly as evangelist to spread the Story of Jesus (TheGospel) and less of a cultural warrior. We have become so engulfed with secular things that we have lost our vision.

What is secular about a show that blasphemes the God of heaven?

Some argue that we should stand against it. I am uncertain. Some Christians believe we should fight a cultural war. But the theology of a nation shapes the culture.

Getting a network to choose not to launch anti-christian media may not be laying the axe at the root. But I don't think it hurts letting the cartoon network know of our disapproval.

Since my family does this too, to a lesser degree, I can add my answer. We do not subscribe to public television. I did this mainly to be able to control the media in my home because so much of what is available on the most basic plans is vile, depraved, sensural, sadistic, evil, liberal, et.

I have allowed Netflix which I can stream through my Xbox, but they are getting pretty bad now. I may have to cut that off. What we have allowed has been cartoons/movies that we pre-screen.

Eliminating TV cuts out advertising which promotes promiscuity, greed, and covetousness. I tried TV for a period of time, and found that I could both limit and block certain things so that my home was only exposed to decent or neutral programming. What I could not control was the liscentiousness that comes through the commercials.

My kids have grown up without public television. They have seen it, and do enjoy it. But for now I keep it out.

If God cannot handle someone calling him a name, that would be pretty pathetic.

Hmmmm...

I'm sure He can and continually does. It's how He handles it that should give one pause.

On the other hand, blaspheming the Holy Spirit is an unforgivable sin. Just a thought.
