Democrats, Advocacy Groups Blast Cuts to Food Stamps to Fund $26B Aid Bill
Published August 11, 2010
| FoxNews.com

Some Democrats are upset and advocacy groups are outraged over the raiding of the food-stamp cupboard to fund a state-aid bailout that some call a gift to teachers and government union workers.

House members convened Tuesday and passed the multibillion-dollar bailout bill for cash-strapped states that provides $10 billion to school districts to rehire laid-off teachers or ensure that more teachers won't be let go before the new school year begins, keeping more than 160,000 teachers on the job, the Obama administration says.

But the bill also requires that $12 billion be stripped from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, commonly known as food stamps, to help fund the new bill,

The cuts are not scheduled to take place until 4 years from now. Considering the amount of budget cuts across the board that will probably have to take place by 2014 to avoid a fiscal catastrophe happening here this $12 billion will just be a drop in the bucket.

Uh huh.

That makes it even worse. The payoff starts now.

Yes, it does make it worse. We are in serious, serious fiscal trouble in this country. This last decade with either major party in power has been disastrous spending wise.

Yet another proposal that won't go into effect until after the next presidential election.

So we still have time to elect a different president, and plenty of time to overturn all this legislation before it goes into effect....

I wonder: Is that what they expect to happen? So they can turn around later and say, "hey, we enacted all kinds of legislation that was beneficial for the people, but all these new congressional people, and this new president, they're the ones that nixed it. We tried to help the American people, but these guys killed it"....

I think that it is more a matter of vote buying.

Give all this stuff to the unions so that they will vote for Democrats in November - but the bill doesn't come due until down the road.

And, if the Republicans are in control guess who will get the blame just as the dem's are now blaming Republicans for putting an expiration date on the tax cuts when in fact it was the dem's who hijacked the cuts by demanding that there be expiration dates.

Way back when I had a professor who said in politics liberals would win, because the end justifies the means. He would use the conservatives as Gene Autry, he said Gene wouldn't shoot a man in the back but the other side would. And he said he agreed with it because he was a liberal, you do what one has to to win. So BHO is doing what he thinks will keep him in office, paying off those who paid him to take care of them and throw the rest away.

Except when the nation is at war. Then they do whatever it takes to lose.
