No, on his last day in office, BO is going to give OJ Simpson a full pardon, then BO will hire OJ so the two of them can locate BO birth certificate:smilewinkgrin:

    6) Ohio ---- High unemployment and cold winters

North and South Dakota ranked in the top 10 best places to retire! I guess Ohio is colder?

A "Good" state is one where a person on a fixed income can increase his standard of living.

I don't trust the AARP to tell me much. They are more concerned with self-preservation than with the needs of senior citizens.

There is more to life than money.

My primary concern would be proximity to family.

Then local environment - which for me is a quaint small village.

On or near a body of water.

    In the woods.

    With changing seasons.

Those were the factors that we considered when we picked out our vacation home in northern Michigan on Lake Michigan. :love2:

That's where we plan on retiring to in the next six to thirty months - depending on other factors.

I can't imagine who would want to retire to Ohio or Illinois. I feel too far north as I am, I want to go further south or east. I'm a coast guy for sure. I've got salt in my blood and being almost 4 hours away from the ocean is bad enough.

We considered going south rather than north - but we love the changing seasons too much.

I enjoy shoveling the snow and I love the sight of fresh fallen snow - especially when it sticks to the trees.

We love the fall colors. Another reason why we bought our vacation home on the "Tunnel of Trees". Google some images of "M-119 Tunnel of Trees".

We love the summer - and we have a beautiful Lake Michigan beach.

And nothing is better than the spring when the snow melts, everything becomes green and the flowers come out.

For me you just can't match having four distinct seasons.

We have seasons down here: Summer, Hurricane, Tourist and Love Bug.

The problem is that during tourist season, we can't shoot them! :tongue3:

I've always thought Arizona would be my goal. But now, the rest of the country seems determined to undermine the state's attempts to solve its own problems. And like Florida, after too many years of being seen as a 'golden years utopia,' that in itself reduces its attraction, with too many golf cars jamming the Sun City streets, and places with too much consumption over too little production. It's likely a good idea to get in on the 'first wave' of a new retirement community and croak before too much of that happens. It's a decision you probably can't know is right for some time, maybe not until it's too late. But old Jacob chose Egypt for his cherry time, and it doesn't appear he liked that so well at the very end.

Got some money brother....go by a house boat & put it on the FLA Keys & just fish your life away. Maybe some like the snow but I like the trade wind breeze of the ocean & an occasional cold one.

Which is why we don't mind paying a premium to live in Washington State.

For some purposes it is important to establish a residence in your retirement state prior to actually retiring...

This is because some states have agreements with employers to tax retirement income by withholding...
