At 3% each. Is that really significant? I like the fact that they listed family members, teachers, coaches, etc so highly.

For that 3% it is very significant, but the poll is not just about that 3%. If you look at the poll carefully on a whole they did not have a roll model to point to. The highest was a generic answer and it went swiftly downhill from there.

I do too but the fact that Lady Gaga and Mike Tyson are on the list makes my stomach turn.

But hey David Wright was on the list!!!!

What? No Chuck Norris or John Wayne?:tear:

I thought it was odd Walt Disney was mentioned. IMO its actually surprising that Obama wasnt rated higher.

How would you all respond if some claimed God as a role model? And how is claiming Jesus different than claiming God?

There is no difference so while I consider God/Jesus more then a role model I think that just the fact that only 3% even pointed to Jesus shows the desperate condition of the next generation.

If I were asked for a role model, I seriously doubt I would even consider Jesus Christ. I would assume they were talking about people, not the God/Man Saviour and Creator.

Over all, depressing but not surprising.

Even before Socrates lived the older generation was sure the younger generation was totally messed up and wrung their hands on what was going to happen as time went by. It hasn't changed. Each generation has had the same feeling. What did the "old" folk say about your generation when you were teenagers?

The young folk are going to do just fine.

I didn't see anything to be alarmed about.

Here was the question posed to the teenagers. "The nationwide sample of teenagers asked 13- to 17-year-olds to identify the person whom they admire most today as a role model, other than their parents."

As an adult reader, what I understand the question to be asking is for a human being alive today whom they admire and which they could be like.

I thought it was quite refreshing actually that 63% said a close relative, teachers, and coaches. That's almost 2 out of 3, for crying out loud. That's a relief that they not all running to be like Britney Spears and Hugh Hefner.

Only 6% listed entertainers and only 5% listed sports figures.

I can only think of what MY answer would have been when I was between the ages of 13-17. I might have said anything from my grandparents to my preacher at the time to Marcia Brady to Farrah Fawcett! Whew! I could have said anything.

I can only say that if Jesus Christ had been a choice - if the survey had been a poll - and only 3% admired Him the most, then that would been very telling.

But they had to come up with these names off the top of their heads and they were asked to give a person today.

This impressed me tremendously - I suspect this generation is not really in any more trouble than any other batch of teenagers. By the results of this poll I'd say it has a bright future.

I've been working with teens since 1983. I keep hearing how rotten teens are. Then I see them grow up, have families, and grow into responsibility.

I have great hope in youth.

The following quote is attributed to Socrates.

And, we were such paragons of virtue and character when we were teens.

Sadly enough, there is more money being put into promoting Nike, KFC, and Obama than there is Jesus. While Jesus doesn't really compete with anything, in the eyes of these brainwashed kids, maybe he is. These kids' eyes certainly see more KFC and Nike commercials than they do anything about Jesus. The world we live in.
