Press Release Tue, 26 Apr 2011
The Christian Reformed Church (CRC) and the Reformed Church in America (RCA) have announced that they are pooling resources in an innovative church-planting movement

Seed funding for this project is being provided by the two denominations as well as a significant grant from the Richard and Helen DeVos Foundation. A spokesperson for the Foundation said Rich and Helen have a deep interest in expanding the Reformed witness

To launch the project, the two denominations have selected four test areas. . .Florida, Arizona, California, and West Michigan.

Because if there's anywhere bereft of a Reformed witness it's. . .West Michigan?

ferret out nonsense like this & then make it public

Isn't that why they issued a press release, so people would know about it?

Unlike some schemes discussed elsewhere on the BB, this effort is not covert, and that is to commended.

spew hate all over it.....how predictable. ROFL. Just too funny!

This from one who has posted things like:
down that path of Reformed Theology. I accepted it as the true faith & tried to build my life on it....that is until I discovered things detestable about the people I was later dealing with. The bottom line is there is bondage to religion out there & your right, all you need to do is recognize it & move on. The interesting thing is that it was my brother who was patient with me & pulled me outa there (Being a Baptist Minister). Also, after seeing what my wife & I went through, her entire family has renounced them & moved to churches that are much more humble and use the bible as their primary reference point. So I guess that having gone through it all, practicing discernment & exposing them has great value in finding the true Christ & His Kingdom.
and
that damning interpretation of scripture by these Reformed know it alls
and
I am not surprised that the Reformed would take the position with me that they do. I must seem a nut to their way of processing God... LOL.
To them I say, so long & I will pray for your eventually obtaining the Holy Spirit

Thank you for your lucid post.

It is strange, as western Michigan is already a Reformed enclave.

See this map.

Dr. Robert P. Swierenga, address to the West Michigan Historical Society:

One of the most remarkable episodes in the history of Michigan and perhaps also of the United States as a whole is the execution of a plan formed by the Rev. Van Raalte before he left the city of Arnhem in the Netherlands. His aim was to obtain absolute control of a region in western Michigan where he might shape a whole community in accordance with his own concept of a perfect society."
six cities selected by Van Raalte--Marshall, Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids, Grand Haven, Allegan, and Saugatuck
Grand Rapids was a "model city in many respects," said Van Raalte, and was destined to become. . .the Calvinist Jerusalem of America."
prosperity in Grand Rapids induced the Christian Reformed Church to locate its seminary there in 1876. This decision eventually made Grand Rapids the CRC intellectual center, complete with college, seminary, and denominational headquarters.

Indeed.

Grand Rapids Press

[Amway mogul Rich DeVos's] goal of reuniting the Christian Reformed Church with the Reformed Church in America. . . .the two denominations split in 1857. . . .the issues that caused the CRC to break away are irrelevant now. . .Virtually no theological or worship differences remain. Now that the CRC ordains women, that's no issue either.
