Could fans of Tebow, the football player please explain why there was such a demand for him to play and why there is such elation that he is going to play?
I understand he is a fine upstanding Christian with a good testimony, but let's not use that as a lens to judge his playing abilities.
OTOH, it can't get much worse for Broncos fans, so why not start Tebow?
(This said by a Vikings fan who is wishing the Vikings would bench McNabb and start Christian Ponder.)

Tebow's been analyzed to death, whether it's his mechanics, passing accuracy, whatever. But, I think we (as sports fans) are starting to understand something very important about quarterbacks. You can have all the physical gifts in the world, but if you don't have "it", (and I realize it's hard to define what "it" is), you're not going to be successful.
And for all of the abilities he lacks as a QB, he has "it". His teammates play harder, with more passion, when he's in the game. I don't care one bit whether the Donkeys win another game ever, but I think that given the time to grow as a pro QB, Tebow will be successful in the NFL.

No matter what folks like yourself think of him we want the best for him. We are not willing to just brush him to the side or dismiss him as having no talent. Your heavy handed judgment of him does not reflect reality.
Actually based on many scouts and front office people...his view is quite accurate. You can want the best for the man without making him into something he is not, a starting caliber QB.
Yea I know and those same people said he would not get to the NFL at all. Good source you got there.
I'm not talking about the talking heads on the networks, I'm talking about people who know football. You do know the difference, right?
If it weren't for Josh McDaniel taking him he very well might be on someone's practice squad right now instead of being forced into the lineup based on the high price he cost the Broncos.

Being a 3rd or 4th doesn't guarantee a roster spot.

In the 35 years that I have covered the National Football League, I cannot think of a single story that resembled what is transpiring in Denver with Tim Tebow(notes) and the Broncos' quarterback situation. Certainly, position battles happen every day on every team, and when fans get involved, there are often wildly varied opinions as to who's the best man for the job. But football people are usually pretty consistent, and it is almost impossible to find a solid evaluator who ranks Tebow any higher than third among the Broncos' quarterbacks today.
The problem is that his tremendous following, which has created so much pressure on his coaches and teammates to let him play, is obviously far more impressed with who he is as a person rather than what he is right now as a quarterback. That is obviously not how you run a football team. It's not fair to his coaches or teammates, and more importantly, it's not fair to him.

Tim looked bad most of the game yesterday. But for the last 3 minutes he did well. But at the end he looked like a winner. It would be nice if he makes it and does well at qb in the NFL.
I'm hoping he can get a handle on his mechanics. Only saw the highlights, but man, he does not know how to throw a ball that well. Good defensive coordinators will have a field day with him.
On the flip side, my guy who is supposed to be accurate with mechanics is struggling to complete 50% of his passes (McCoy). In the end its all about winning.

Maybe I'm just to old, I recall Joe Kapp, Billy Kilmer who were not very good passing the ball but got the job done. Kapp's passes would go end over end at times and I don't think Kilmer was much better.
I saw Tim play in HS and college and he was very good. I like what he stands for as a Christian young man as your qb Mccoy is, so I'm pulling for him. He just hits me as a winner and that attitude will carry you a good ways. Kilmer and Kapp were what I called winners and they played way above their ability, they took their short comings and turned them into assets.
Sonny Jurgensen who I believe is the best pure passer who ever played in the NFL threw the ball with all kind of different motions. He even completed a pass or two left handed and behind his back. He believed to much is made about Tim's mechanics, work on them but don't change to much of what made him, him. Just work on him getting the ball from point a to point b. Sonny brings up a group of qbs who did much wrong in their motion but had good careers. He also named many hitters in baseball who were great but did everything wrong as well a s few pictures. Time will tell, but he sure looked bad formost of the game and then looked great at the end.
I saw all of the game (live). Tebow looked, well ... he looked simply awful for the first 55 minutes of the game. I felt really bad for him. At one point, I think he had 3 completions for 9 attempts for a total of 4 yards -- something like that. He had wide open receivers (thanks to the Miami corners), but he couldn't get the ball to them. His passes were not even close. (To be fair, Denver really doesn't have an offensive line so he was getting hit a lot as well. I think Miami had 5 or 6 sacks, which is like 5 or 6 sacks more than normal.)
But for the final five minutes, he looked like the Tebow of old and all of the Gator faithful at the game came alive -- at least those who were still there (a lot of them left early). Give him credit - by sheer will and determination (plus a really, really bad Dophins defense), he was able to bring them back to tie the game.
Got to admire him - even if he is a Gator.

I'm a gator from way back, but the last 5 or 6 years with all the player getting arrested, it causes us to hang our head.
Tim, has to make it. Florida has had three qb's win the Heisman Trophy, all three are sons of preacher men. Spurrier played back up qb and punter for most of his NFL time except for one year with the 49'er when John Brodie was hurt and time in Tampa. Danny Wuerffel who just has a very weak arm and played a while as a back up qb. Now their is Tim, we are pulling for him.
