Why is the Federal government involved in school lunches to begin with?

Buying a lunch at school is optional. Students can bring lunches from home.

Where is the parents responsibility here?

An with all that is wrong with our economy, goverment, national debt, multiple wars, etc. you think that school lunches is why our "nation is in serious trouble"?

    Really?

    Hyperbole much?

They are involved because of liberals and the free/reduced lunch programs. It's yet another method of liberal vote purchasing.

Come on now. With an estamanted 12 million illegals here, and most likely it is three times that much, someone has to feed all the illegals who are here. Other wise they will stop coming. What are you thinking about?

Let's get the word out that not only will we feed them, but if they come to Texas we will give them 100,000 dollars of free tuition towards a college education all at the expense of the tax payers from the gracious heart of our governor, Rick Perry.
Rick Perry for President! YA! That way everyone can chip in as he makes it a national policy.

Take heart - its not just Americans.

The Irish Dail (parliament) has decided that garlic bread is not bread.

[SIZE=+0]Interesting isn't it. This must be some kind of group phenomena that when you put a group of highly educated college people together in a political environment they always become greatly disorientated. Perhaps there is a vaccine for this problem or better yet maybe they should all be required to submit to Electroconvulsive therapy every 6 months of their service in the political arena and save themselves embarrassment and the people they are serving untold dollars.

Frog legs :) Yum Yum ... makes me think i haven't eaten that since a long time ...

Pizza as a vegetable ... weird ... as if there weren't enough too fat people in USA, this might justify some people eating, or giving too much junk food to their kids " It's alright, it's considered vegetables. "

Pizza is the perfect food, you got your grains in the crust, dairy in the cheese, meat in the pepperoni, and the veggies in the sauce. If you want to make it even healthier add onions and mushrooms. All other food should be banned.

I wish it wasn't true Salty, but we have created parents who won't feed their own children. Not only do we have school lunch programs all summer long now, but our church is participating in a program where we send backpacks of food home with the kids every weekend. We have elementary kids as young as kindergarten who don't get fed except at school. We send home juice boxes, oriental noodles, and cans of ready to eat food like ravioli and we have a class to teach the kids how to heat them up. 5 and 6 year olds who have to provide for themselves, and it is becoming more and more common, at least where I live.

Since when is meat a vegetable? I've never had (and never will) pizza without meat. Without meat (preferably sausage) it's not pizza in my opinion.
