I may consider moving to Ft. Smith Arkansas. According to my girl Arkansas is a much better economy than South Carolina. How can I be for sure and what websites online (google does not work) will tell me about the job markets in various states? I do not desire to work in the light industrial field forever, but unfortunately due to the SC job market, and my recent experience every job that I desire to work at gives me the rejection letter, so I am better off relocating to a better job market.

On my recent plane trip to Arkansas we had a stop in Dallas, TX and I met someone that told me that Dallas is booming and is a 10 times better economy than SC. They said if I need experience in a career where I lack the experience I am better off relocating. Thanks..

Well, having been raised in Arkansas i will try to help you with this.

NW Arkansas is one of the fastest growing areas in the US, and you dont grow that fast without a good economy. Personally i think that the Bentonville, Springdale area just north of Fort Smith is better...well at least it is newer.

The wages arent all that great, but there are lots of jobs and the cost of living is low. Also, the fishing at Dardenelle and Beaver lake is great.

The area is known for being the home of Walmart and Tyson Foods, but it is also the home of several national trucking companies and even some aviation manufacturers.

And best of all, you could easily go to each and every Razorback home game....Go hogs!!!!Sooieeee!!!!

Ok, I know I didnt have a lot of useful information in this post, but maybe it encouraged you none the less.

    Good luck,
    john

Look on CraigsList in the section employment to see the number of jobs listed for the area you are interested in. You can usually even submit your resume online and see if they are interested. Texas, houston and dallas probably has the most jobs if you can stand the heat but if Arkansas is your choice CraigsList will work there also.

You are in debt and have no job....

Yes, what a great idea! Relocate! Let me guess...your girl (who've you have only met in person once) said you can live with her (and each keep pure) while you look for a job?

CraigsList has nothing but spam and fake jobs in SC. Is it different in other states?

This looks to be very helpful. Do you know of any websites that talk about economies, job markets, growth in different states? Thanks.

I can only speak for Texas and they are real here. You would need to look and see and reply to the adds.

    Personally------if it were me

I wouldn't relocate until I am absolutely and positively HIRED by desired company

It would be rediculous to relocate and then look for a job----maybe thats not what you have in mind

    GET HIRED------------THEN RELOCATE!!!!

If you're looking at a specific region or county to go to, there are usually economic development websites that tell average wages, etc. Also look for top 10 employers, pick a place with good diversification of employers (Education, Healthcare, Retail, Industrial, Transportation, Tourism, etc.), these areas are usually less impacted if a large employer relocates/closes. This website also has some quick indicators that you can use to get a feel for a county compared to the state and surrounding counties.

    http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/05000.html ARKY

As far as websites for job searches, msn career builder is pretty good, try indeed to. Indeed appears to search employers and lists in the area, and seems to be more comprehensive. If your girl is a recent college grad in the area she might also be able to use the local Career Placement office at the University for job leads.

Good luck in whatever you decide to do.

I don't think employment is the reason he is wanting to go to Arkansas.

I think he is going there because of a woman he met on the internet.

And I think he will go there whether he has a job or not.

    Just guessing

I don't think, I think, I think,Just guessing. I am sure that you are not for sure. So why state such opinion. That is often called gossip. When I was much younger "my girl" was a term that was used to refer to someone's daughter.

Thats one part of the equation. So what you got a problem with it? Look there is not a black widow spider underneath every rock, and there is not a shark in every swimming area of the ocean.

I said "I think" out of courtesy, when in fact he admits in post 15 that what I think is true. I based this on his posts in another thread about meeting her on the internet and going to spend several nights with her at her house...(just the 2 of them overnight). But unlike you, I was trying to not be too blunt.

He posted the link to EHarmony.com so I "guess" that he found her there and then made a trip all the way from South Carolina to Arkansas to spend several nights alone with her.

Why do you feel the need to critique every post of mine, even when your conclusions are wrong?

Do you have a problem with me personally?

if you do, then just put me on ignore. It wont hurt my feelings

That is true, but if I dont want to be compared to a black widow or a shark, then I better make sure my testimony doesnt resemble them.

C'mon to Arkansas! It's a great place to live, great place to raise a family! I haven't kept up much with Ft. Smith since college (started my college career at the Community College there), and it has certainly grown a lot since I was there in the 80's, but overall the state is a great place to live. You have access to multitudes of things to do within the borders, camping, hunting, fishing, hiking, cycling, etc.

Other than 4 years in the military in Wyoming and Saudi Arabia, I've spent my years here in the state.

Not knowing your trade or what kind of work you're looking I can't really suggest anything in the Ft. Smith area, but there are loads of companies that I'm sure are looking for good people to add to their staffs.
