This story is for the birds

We had one that looked just like that and it would land on my shoulder like that one. Ours would sooner or later walk over and nip my ear, I would say ouch that hurts and swip my hand and tell it to get out of here.

One day he landed, nipped my ear said "ouch that hurts get out of here" and flew off.

I love that story. One of my hobbies is raising parakeets. I have a rather large cage, and several birds. They require constant attention and cleaning, but they make my day. Each has their own personality. It is so funny to watch them scatter when my hand goes into the cage. Each has its own escape pattern that I have learned, and catch them quite easily. There were no babies this spring, but that comes and goes. They all have Biblical names of course, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Amos, Moses, Adam and Seth. I have two blues, two whites, two yellows, a silver, and a green. They can really get loud when all chirping at once. One likes to sit on a head of hair, and a couple of them like to roost on the rims of glasses, and the rest on the top of laptops.

Pets have always been a part of our lives. We also have a Maltese and a house cat. One tragedy about two years ago. I was at school teaching, and one of the white parakeets managed to get the water dish loose, and flew out of the cage. Well, to make a long story short, the cat zapped it. When I got home, there were feathers all over the house. I guess the bird tried to get away, but the cat won. When I first found the bird, my inclination was to beat the cat to death, but, cats do what cats do. It was not the cat's fault.
