I still am in shock over this comment. And I'm not very shockable these days.

    http://www.foxnews.com/politics/201...pread-gop-criticism-call-to-exit-senate-race/

Between this idiot and the vice-President's race baiting, "There gonna put you all back in chains", nonsense, I have come to the conclusion that we are being lead almost 100% by clowns, circus freaks, and dead-brain mannequins.

I'd say that, but it would be an insult to the clowns, circus freaks, and mannequins who are just trying to carve out a decent living in this world. (Yes, I said even an insult to the mannequins.)

And .... does Rep. Akin mean what I *think* he means by "legitimate r@pe"?

Scarlett - you and I both! I could hardly believe my eyes! My understanding of the phrase was r@pe that was not "asked for".

Another sign of the small gap between the two parties. Both share small minds.

Whoop tee do. Republicans also chose Mitch McConnell as Senate leader, stood behind Senator Larry Craig, Senator Livingston, Senator Ensign, Congressman Tom DeLay, Congressman Joe Wilson, Senator Ted Stevens, etc, etc, etc, fine group of sexual perverts and thieves.

Good that his fellow Republicans are asking him to withdraw. What an offensive little doofus!

[ETA - we have our own version on this side of The Pond, only from the Loony Left rather than the Rabid Right: Gorgeous George Galloway, who has spoken up (if that's the right term for it) for his fellow self-absorbed narcissist, Julian Assange. ]

He should have known that rape and abortion are political.

    Rape: Anything a woman hates.

    Abortion: Anything a woman wants.

I'm sorry that you have so little respect for women.

Everyone knows there's a difference between forcible rape and statutory rape. That's all that was being said.

    I should rephrase it:

    rape: anything a feminist hates

    abortion: anything a feminist wants

Hmmm....you were - unwittingly I suspect - more right first time round with the first statement: rape is anything to do with sexual intercourse that a woman doesn't want.

    And quite right too.

    Oh, so that's alright then.

I'm surprised you're able to discern that meaning through his offensive cack-handedness, but it makes no difference to the biological ignorance of the anti-science know-nothing that is Todd Akin.

Can someone explain to me what he meant by "the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down"?
    What does that mean?????

Ah, it's just mind over matter! Throw away all that birth control paraphernalia!! Just concentrate...

[Talking of birth control, what a shame Akin's parents failed to use any...]

And therein lies the offensiveness and the level of stupidity.

He is citing a loooongly held and wrongly held "medical fact" taught for eons (and I thought was no more believed by people with intelligence) that a woman who claims that she was raped and ends up pregnant cannot be telling the truth because if she does not achieve "gratification" that pregnancy cannot occur.

It's the old "the purpose of a woman's gratification is for conception only" mentality.

He believes that a woman who claims rape and is pregnant is lying about the rape because if she is pregnant, then she apparently "enjoyed" it. He doesn't believe that an actually rape can biologically lead to pregnancy.

And what makes it worse, it that he claims that this is how someone in the current medical field described it.

You have got to be kidding!

I have never heard of anything so stupid in my entire 53 years. :BangHead:

And they're looking for intelligent life on Mars? They should be looking for it here.

The idea originated with Galen. It is obviously unscientific. The scary thing is that this guy was elected to Congress. I just hope he doesn't discredit the Republican Party.

This isn't at all what was said. He was asked why he was opposed to abortion even in the cases of rape. He said he was told by various doctors that pregnancy in the cases of forcible rape is rare, and that if a pregnancy did occur, then the child should not die for the crime.
