Tampa, Florida (CNN) – Mike Huckabee participated in a conference call Friday night with hundreds of Baptist pastors and Christian talk radio hosts in Missouri that was organized to coordinate a robust defense of Rep. Todd Akin as he faces pressure from Washington Republicans to drop his Senate bid against Democrat Claire McCaskill.

Speaking harshly about establishment Republicans who have tried to force Akin from the Missouri race, Huckabee at one point compared the National Republican Senatorial Committee to "union goons" who "kneecap" their enemies.

Really, Mr. Huckabee? Akin says an incredibly stupid thing and you want Missouri pastors to defend it? It just makes Republicans look dumb and dumber.

Republican evangelicals already look pretty dumb and it has nothing to do with what Huckabee is doing.

Right or wrong, Akin won't win this battle. For the sake of the war I think he should step down and let another conservative take his place.

DO they even have the option of adding someone else to the ballot at this point?

Baloney! So he stumble BUT to turn on the guy and throw him under the bus was stupid indeed. Dog eat dog politics RATHER than take back the senate. I agree with Mike huckabee on this issue. Romney is Obama lite in my book.

Do you truly think he can win?

Claire Mccaskill and the Dems want him to stay in the race. Why do you think that is so?

This situation does nothing but help Obama the longer it goes on. One of the things a potential leader is required to do is think before opening mouth. I agree with Aaron on this one.

I wonder if President Obama said that Akin "acted stupidly.

Dollars to donuts, if you asked most people, they would not even remember what Akin said.

So now Akin is an anti-Christ?

    Because he opposes abortion?

Very self revealing on your part.
