Did you know that President Obama is responsible for the loss of more U.S. jobs than any other person? Did you know that Sen. John F. Kerry and his wife are three to four times as rich as Mitt and Ann Romney, according to the New York Times, yet paid a lower tax rate than the Romneys in 2003, the year before Mr. Kerry ran for president? Do you know how to lower your tax rate? Read on.

Mr. Romney is being criticized in the mainstream media for having paid just about 14 percent of his income in federal income taxes and having some of his money in places like Switzerland and Cayman (even though he appears to have paid all of the taxes on interest and dividends that were due to the United States). Yet, eight years ago, when the far richer Mr. Kerry and his wife paid a slightly lower tax rate and also had their money dispersed globally, as sensible rich people do, they were lauded by many of the same folks who are now in a tizzy about Mr. Romney's finances. Note: Mr. Kerry's wife inherited her money, while Mr. Romney earned his by building real businesses.

Rich people usually employ others to manage their money. Presidents and presidential candidates put their money in blind trusts, as have Mr. Romney and Mr. Obama. When people hire money managers, they expect them to make the highest after-tax returns commensurate with the level of safety those people desire, and the managers have a fiduciary responsibility to do so. Diversification, by type of investment (stock, bonds and real estate) and by geography, is considered prudent financial management.

Richard W. Rahn is a senior fellow at the Cato Institute and chairman of the Institute for Global Economic Growth.

Mr. Romney's opponents are asking why anyone needs a Swiss bank account (except for the rich Democrats who have them)

Think of the 1960 election to drive home the point. We visited the Richard Nixon library last year with the home he was raised in. His family was very poor, with five children. It was a small framed house, barely big enough for four. The father was lucky to feed, cloth, and house his family. Kennedy on the other hand, grew up in the lap of luxury from a fortune of ill gotten gains.

I do not think we should put down the service of a man who has been in combat.

True, his purple hearts may be questionable, and I did not like like what he said after returning, but that is a different discussion.

I was never in combat either. Three times we came close. First, in 1974, I was on a team that set up Loran towers on remote Greek islands while the ship surveyed the Aegean Sea. About July of that year, Turkey invaded Cyprus. Our island was not far from there, and we abandoned the camp just before troops overran the island. We had no arms. The second time came a few years later in the Med when a Lybian gunboat came after us (1979 about). We had orders to turn around and head away from the coast.

There was a third incident in Puetro Rico. We were docked at Roosevelt Roads. A shot rang out and a sailor fell to the deck with a head wound. At the time, there was some type of independence movment going on in PR, so the ship was ordered to GQ. Finally, when the medics got to the sailor, he had shot himself with a 45 in the head because of a dear John letter from his girl friend. All they could do was literally push the brain matter back in his head as best as they could, bandage him up, and ship him out. He actually lived a few weeks afterwards.

I guess two of the worst incidents not combat related were the collision of the Belknap and Kennedy during underway replenishment. We were in the same convoy. The Belknap somehow went under the flight deck of the Kennedy, and sheered off some of the super structure of the Belknap, killing several sailors. We stored several of the bodies on the way back to port.

Another time, on an ammo ship, a fire broke out in the compartment next to a storage locker. The fire was so hot the walls were almost untouchable. The fire crew put out the fire just in time. I honesty thought for a few minutes we all were going to die, and at the time, I was not ready.

Salty, sorry to ramble, but reminded me of several incidents.

We did get orders to Vietnam once to unload ammo, and they were cancelled.

I honor those who serve our country in the military, particularly those who do so in combat. My father served in WWI, 5 brothers in WWII one killed. I served during the Truman Police Action but not in combat for which I am thankful.

I do not take a back seat to anyone in honoring our servicemen but there is a limit. I believe that it was people like Kerry who prolonged the combat in Viet Nam resulting in thousands of useless deaths.

It seems to me that if we are going to fight a war we should win as quickly as possible and get out. We are still in Korea, got run out of Viet Nam. We were in Iraq far to long and should have left Afghanistan 10 years ago. Iraq shows that as soon as we leave those people will resume killing each other!

Not a dig on his service, just one on the fact that he took every opportunity to remind everyone.

    As the Bible says:

From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.

The GOP is following a policy of "from everyone who has been given much less will be expected; and from those who have been entrusted with much much less will be asked. From those who have been given little more will be expected; from those who have been entrusted with less much more will be demanded."

Your intentional misrepresentation is obvious and will not stand. Conservatives give out of their pocket, unlike liberals.
