Stop me if you heard this one. See, these ten nuns walk into a polling station in Indiana and the guy in charge says, “Whoa, Sisters! What do think you’re doing?”

“Voting,” says Sister Mary.

“Well, not here, ladies; not without your ID!” He demanded their driver’s licenses, but the ten quite elderly Sisters of the Holy Cross, including a 98 year-old, had long ago given up cruising.

I may not have gotten the dialogue exactly right, but I got the gist of it and the facts: the ten nuns who’d been voting at that station for decades were booted out in 2008, just after the state of Indiana’s Republican legislature imposed new voter ID laws.

The reason for nixing the nuns? To stop voter identity theft. There wasn’t exactly a voter identity crime wave. In fact, despite no photo ID requirement, there wasn’t a single known case of false identity voting in the state in over one hundred years.

About four hundred thousand voters (9 percent of Indiana’s electorate) are African American. Nearly one in five (18.1 percent) lack the ID needed to vote, according to Matt Barreto of the University of Washington.

Seriously, why don't African Americans have ID?

You started the discussion - how about entering into it?

If ten elderly nuns can get to the polls on election day, ten elderly nuns can get to the apprpriate office days or weeks or months beforehand to get IDs.

To say that it's too much of a burden to get an ID is ludicrous.

No false voter ID in over 100 years in Indiana?

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/04/02/4-indiana-dems-charged-with-election-fraud-in-2008/

"That's not my signature," Charity Rorie told Fox News as she sat in her kitchen in Mishawaka, Ind.. The mother of four was stunned that her name and signature, and those of her husband, appeared on one of the Obama petitions. She said they "absolutely" were fakes and was troubled that personal details such as their address and birthdays were also included.

This is worse than voter fraud, Obama should not have even been on the ballot in Indiana.

EXACTLY!

I have a disabled sibling who has never driven a car. Yet, she has a photo ID for all those times she's required to have one for non-voting purposes.

Many old people were not born in a hospital and their birth did not generate a government record.

I'm maybe the only one on BB who supports the only logical solution - a national ID card.

You're also probably the only one who considers Alternet a legitimate news source.

You may have gotten by with such an explanation 50 years ago - but it really doesn't fly anymore.

You all think anyone without government picture ID is an illegal alien? Space alien?

I think I read somewhere that you were retired from law enforcement. When you pulled people over, did you take their word for it that they were who they said they were and that they had a driver's liscence without verifying?

This is more Democrat lying propaganda. Those nuns couldn't cash their Social Security checks without a photo ID. They have Social Security cards, Medicare Cards, and state IDs. They are free to those who lack the finances to pay the $11.

The entire "Photo ID" attack by the Democrats is RACIST! It assumes minorities are too stupid to know how to get a photo ID. And now they have gone over into AGEISM, assuming that older people are too senile to know how to get a photo ID.

I am a senior and I just counted the photo IDs in my wallet. 4 that I carry every day.

Veterans Administration ID card.
Texas Drivers License
Texas Concealed Handgun License
Sam's Club ID

In my armoire I found several more.

Florida Concealed Handgun License
Utah Concealed Handgun License
US Passport
Costco Club ID

Oh, and now many voter registration cards include a photo on the voter registration card.

Have those lying liberals no shame?

Up to recently, NJ did not require a photo Licence & they issued them w/o the pic....just saying

I didn't know any of the states still issued non-photo driver's licenses.

I wonder how many NJ DL's are issued under the name Santos L. Hopper? (Think The Simpsons)

The REAL ID Act of 2005 requires all state issued drivers licenses and ID cards to include a photograph as well as other security and fraud prevention standards including verification of documents presented to establish identification.
