ELLABELL, Ga. – A toddler who slipped outside through a doggie door was mauled to death by her family's seven dogs in the backyard while the attack went unnoticed by child's mother and other relatives inside their home, a southeast Georgia sheriff said Thursday.

Bryan County Sheriff Clyde Smith said the child's grandmother told investigators she was lying in bed when she heard the pit bulls and pit bull mixes barking, and she looked outside her window to see them dragging the girl. Smith said she began yelling, "They're killing Monica!"

    Based on what evidence?

Have we, as a society, become so cold-hearted, that we cry out for punishment of a grieving family without knowing anything other than a brief news story?

Reminds me of the Duke Lacross players. Some, around me, wanted those 3 men thrown under the jail when the first news report went out. Where is their accuser now after after she altered their lives forever?

Reminds me, too, of the growing tendency in this country, to call child protective services at the drop of a hat. Yes, real child abuse and true neglect happen. In those cases, punishment should be rendered in accordance with our legal system. However, far too often, the state has put families through far more trama and grief, than a momentary lack of attention (for example) warrents.

For heavens sake. These parents lost their child in horrible circumstances. At least give them the benefit of the doubt until ALL the facts are known. If these were loving parents, even if they made a mistake, there can be no greater punishment, IMO, than the death of their child because of it. And, we as a society, want to heap more punishment on all the family members of that child?

On this Saturday morning, in particular, these verses from scripture come to mind.

    Mark 15: KJB
12 And Pilate answered and said again unto them, What will ye then that I shall do unto him whom ye call the King of the Jews?

13 And they cried out again, Crucify him.

14 Then Pilate said unto them, Why, what evil hath he done? And they cried out the more exceedingly, Crucify him.

You're passing a sentence before the people who are actually in the know are done with their investigation. Good thing you're not a judge.
