There are a couple of anecdotal examples given in the article but otherwise there is no proof that masses of people are giving up looking for work because the recovery isn't as robust as they anticipated. This idea that " Obama's recovery is tepid so I'm quitting looking for work" is ludicrous. I speak as someone who believes the recovery is flaccid and as no fan of Obama.

The article cites the decline in the worker participation rate as if that were proof that people are giving up on looking for work, when the reality is that 10,000 people a day are retiring.

The percentage of working-age Americans with a job or looking for one fell to 63.3 percent in March, the lowest such figure in nearly 34 years. Among the reasons: The baby boomers have begun to retire. The share of men 20 and older in the labor force has dropped as manufacturing has shrunk. After expanding from the early 1950s through the mid-1990s, the share of women working or looking for work has plateaued. Fewer teenagers are working. And some people who have left the job market are getting by on government aid, particularly Social Security's program for the disabled.

[What about being discouraged? Not in the list...]

    --------------------------------

The reasons people drop out of the workforce are myriad. People go back to school. Others have health issues or family priorities that keep them from looking for work. But some stop looking because they are discouraged.

[Being discouraged is fourth on the list.]

    --------------------------

“Income growth is zero and employment growth for all intents and purposes is zero,” says Edward Stuart, an economist at Northeastern Illinois University, at Chicago. “People quit looking for work … there’s a discouragement factor.”

[Discouragement is a factor, but not the only reason people leave the workforce.]

    ------------------------------
From the link in the OP:

Part of the drop reflects the baby boom generation's gradual move into retirement. But such demographics aren't the whole answer. Older Americans have retired early. Younger ones have enrolled in school.

Those quotes were not from CNN or MSNBC. They were provided by another poster.

I don't read CNN or MSNBC. Besides, as several posters have pointed out to me any news source is legitimate so long as it backs up your point of view, even Tass.

And on that note just about every news source out there is reporting this. And they all, as well as most folks with common sense, understand that if you dropped of the unemployment list and are not currently working then you have dropped out of the work force.

Why are people going back to school, retiring early etc. Because of the lack of jobs.

So unless you just want to spin things in Obama's favor then the facts are clear.

Job Openings at Highest Since 2008 Signal U.S. Rebound

Job openings climbed in February to the highest level in almost five years, signaling U.S. employers were preparing to expand before federal government budget cuts took effect last month.

The number of positions waiting to be filled rose by 314,000 to 3.93 million, the most since May 2008, from a revised 3.61 million the prior month, the Labor Department said today in Washington. The pace of hiring increased to a three-month high.
