With the ever increasing amount of television preachers and teachers today naturally the sudden rise in in heresy especially the Prosperity Gospel is more prevelant then ever. I would like to know how you pastors deal with this ever growing issue. Do you deal with it in a general way? Are you specific and name names or do you ignor it completely? !5 years ago my pastor dealt with TBN and named names and there are still folks who havent forgiven him for this.

Paul named names such as Hymenaeus, Philetus and Alexander and warned others of their false teaching &c. He named names of those who forsook him, Demas for example.

    Looks Biblical to me.

Goats simply don't like Biblical preachers. They never have and never will.

Not entirely but this seems to be where it is propounded the most.

We studied this morning that Pastors are to rebuke false teachers. This is from Titus 1.

Have you heard the song by Rapper Shai Linne? He names 12 false teachers in his song. Not sure if this is they way to silence or rebuke false teaching but he definitely is naming names. He named the likes of Joel Osteen, Joyce Meyer and Kenneth Copeland.

We studied the same lesson, I think the problem in the modern church is that we are so pre occupied in trying to get people in the doors, we don't guard the flock like we should. There has to be a balance. Through this last series in Timothy and now in Titus, Paul was adament (sp?) about the dangers of false teachers.

I recently read Paul Washer's "TEN INDICTMENTS against the Modern Church" for the first time, and he makes these statements:

I had signed up for the Chapel Library monthly email and it was part of that. You can do a search for "Washer" under author and download a pdf at this link.

    http://www.chapellibrary.org/literature/title-catalog/

I saw on amazon that if you have a kindle you can download it for free. Also I'm sure its on Youtube.

This was posted, regarding false teaching...(TBN, name it-claim it, etc.)...

The problem with that is that many consider Washer to be a false teacher. ( hard core legalism) :tonofbricks:

I would in no way consider Paul Washer hard core legalism. I've listened to him a lot and his rebukes of false teachers and watered down Christianity is what is needed. I love listening to him and usually feel convicted afterwards, and it's not directed to any works or legalistic issues. It usually boils down to my lack of love for God.

paul took peter to task for starting to have some wrong notions on how to apply the biblical truth of Grace towards gentiles. how much more so would he be rebuking the speakers for satan with the church body?

Jude/peter/John/paul ALL wrote to have false teachers rebuked, exposed.driven out of the assemblies, and we should have heeded their command to do such!

problems lay at the church front door for the hagins/Copelands?Olsteens etc, for we should have pubically denounced them for being false teachers, but buckled under "political correctness/who are you to jusge/new moving of the Spirit" etc!

I've heard quite a few Paul Washer sermons and have yet to think him to be legalistic or a false teacher. I've also listened to his opponents label him as such. Not one of them brought a decent argument or even a little proof, nor has one cast doubt on Washer by any means.

From my take, those who accuse him generally have some serious theological flaws themselves and are typically of the so called Pelagian and semi-Pelagian varieties.

In Titus 1, Paul directed Titus to appoint elders in each town to refute and silence false teachers. How does that apply to us today? I would say it starts from the pulpit and the man behind it. If he isn't standing on sound doctrine and exposing false teachers then the whole congregation isn't equipped to stand on true doctrine and point out false doctrines and false teachers/preachers. I see many in our church gloat over Osteen and they can't see anything wrong with him.

People love to hear the Lord jesus speaking out on love, acceptance, fellowship etc..

they hate though when he gets to the point of the Cross, following Him, making a clear stand etc!

Did Paul just name names or did he point out the false doctrine being promulgated by the deceived and the deceivers? Rather than just vilifying these folks that seem to be ear ticklers, and getting well paid, we should always clearly describe the doctrine, using quotes, and the scripture being misinterpreted, such that good Bereans can check what they said and compare it to scripture. Otherwise, we seem to have fallen into fault finding and other holier than thou pronouncements.

We need to deal with false teachers in our midsts like WoF, health/wealth, prophets/Apostles today etc same way as they did in the reformation, standing up for the truth "once and for all delivered to the saints!"
