Is a Christian nation important

    I heard Todd Starnes report on a Florida school system that uses a new History text book that pushes Islam and Muhammad in a 36 page chapter and the book has nothing to say about Christianity.

    We have also seen over the past 20 years or so how Atheists use the ACLU to remove Christianity from public view in many ways. We see revisionist historians remove Christ and His followers from the history books. The rise of Islam in America is starting to copy what Europe saw over the past 20 years and this worries me.

    But should it? Are we a Christian nation, were we ever? Is that important? Christianity rose in a very hostile part of the world 2000 years ago? If we are to separate from secular society, should we leave it to non Christians? But I being salt and light have anything to do with what is taught in our schools or what is displayed at Christmas time? What are your thoughts?

    My thoughts are that we were a Christian nation until about 1954 and have gone downhill since. The Constitution prevents the government from imposing a religion on us. It does not in any way limit our right to participate in the selection of governing officials based on our Christian beliefs. Separation of church and state protects us from government run religion. It is no way limits our ability to speak and vote our beliefs. Having said that, I believe it is the duty of every Christian to do what we can to maintain our Christian values in this country and vote out politicians that allow situations like your first paragraph describes.

    We have never been a Christian nation. However, this country was founded on biblical principles. Two different things entirely.

    Yes I agree totally, but should we get all worked up when we see Atheists and Muslims take over in Society?

    Well, first of all though a Judeo-Christian framework was part of the underlying philosophy that helped form this nation, it wasn't the primary part.

    We have never been a Christian nation. The Founders were terrified of a Christian nation. It says so right there in the First Amendment. Now, we might have been a nation of Christians but we sure haven't acted like it at the beginning, in the middle, and now in the present day.

    This whole notion that we are a "Christian nation" is simply erroneous and is quite dangerous. We are a pluralist nation. By that, we mean that anyone from any belief or philosophy can live among us and have the ability and opportunity to have their voice heard. We need pluralism because it facilitates religious liberty.

    We aren't a Christian nation.

    Okay, are you talking about Earl Warren?

    I think it is impossible to have a Christian nation. I always wanted to live in a Christian city, but I don't know where there is one.

    Agree with this. Also, this idea that Muslims are "taking over" is erroneous. They are certainly discovering they can exercise their constitutional rights.

    Are they taking over? No they have not reached that level of influence.

    Do they want to? Yes and they are working to gain control in small ways around the country.
