Fired for Freedom of Speech?

The story says the sign "implied Native Americans are bad tippers." You have to be an overly sensitive Native American on a self-hate jag to leap to that conclusion. The sign would say to me, "We're busier than heck. Help!"

When an employee decides to make an a** of him or herself they can now do it for all to see. Sadly, for reasons unkown to me, often times bitter employees also try to embarass the employers and taint the businesses where they work. Clearly a recent post by a now former employee fits this description.

No. Freedom of speech is the right to say anything you want about the GOVERNMENT without consequences, not the right to say anything. It's not complicated.

She's standing in the kitchen of the restaurant - with her tee-shirt/uniform on. And she doesn't imply anything.
She's states with clarity that it's Pow Wow weekend - and that her tips are less than ten cents and five cents. I don't know how much clearer she could have been.
Was she trying to be rude? I highly doubt it. She just wasn't using good judgment. But her message was clear. Did she a "right" to say it and post it online. Sure. Did he have a right as her employer to fire her over it. Yes.
Freedom of speech is not the "right" to say whatever you whenever you want and pay no consequences.

Say what? you have got to be kidding.
Its leagal for a cop to lie to a suspect, even though nothing is said about the govt.
Otherwise, execpt for liable and lying in court - we have the freedom of speech.
What law did this waitress break: Stupidy. There are things I would like to say about employers I have worked for - but as I tell Mrs Salty, "I may be dumb - but I ain't stupid!"
Next day on the job tell your boss you don't work with Native Americans. Exercise your free speech. See if it keeps you employed.

She didn't say that. She didn't even insult Native Americans. Her sign stated she was "a server at Famous Dave's on Pow Wow weekend." That's all it says. It doesn't say "N/A's are bad tippers," and it doesn't say anything negative about either Famous Dave's or Pow Wow Weekend.
Her former boss is apparently a PC-sensitive boor who needs to get a real life and offer the girl her job back. And she should say, "No thanks. I won't work for you anymore, but thank you very much."
I know she didn't say that, but I offered up my example as a way for Salty to exercise his "freedom of speech rights". The point is that the government cannot regulate speech but employers sure can.
First, I work for the Oneida Indians - Not native Americians
Second - there is some speech that employers are not permitted to restrict.
