Yes, because this is the way to most easily destroy America...and from within. Since we lack sufficient, modern firefighting apparatus and all of these fires are blazing out of control as we speak...clearly an Al-Qaida plot.

They hate our forest, so lush, so tree-y.

And in such low population areas, this is the way the country will fall, just like the charred trunks of the forests of trees in their plot...

It seemed a few years ago, Calif told the US govt it did not want US military assistance in fight forest fires.
I tried to google - but found nothing - Do I just have a bad memory on this - or does someone have a vaild reference on this.-

Over a million acres (1,500+ sq miles ) have been affected by forest fires - just this year as well as over 600 structures have been destroyed + many damaged, not to mention the loss of life.

And BTW, the entire State of Rhode Island is 1214 sq miles.

Wait, I think you may be onto something. See, the US Forest Service has started using drones to monitor forest fires, er, wildfires. Al Queda figures if they start enough fires then Obama will be forced to recall drones from the Middle East. It all makes sense.....WOW!

Plus, rural residents in these remote areas of the US would never notice persons of middle eastern descent hanging around their town, buying gasoline and stuff.

Fires have been started around here by people dragging a chain from their truck. Another real bad fire was started by a lawn mower.

Fire is a natural part of what happens around here. There are plants out here that need fire to procreate. Fire is serious business.

It isn't the source of the fire that makes it a "wildfire." It is the way in which it spreads no matter how it started.

Now, having made that statement, let's look at why wildfires become wildfires. The main reason fires have become larger and more nasty and destructive over the last few years is the Forest Service dropping the practice of controlled burns over the last 40 years, essentially since the onset of the enviro-nut ... er, sorry ... environmental movement. The nutcases claimed burning was bad. The truth is, small controlled burns of the underbrush at the base of the forest prevents trees from being choked out and allows them to grow more naturally. The underbrush tends to snarl young trees, deep-rooted bushes and vegetation that encourages healthy forests, so getting rid of it is desirable. When the enviro-nuts ... er, sorry again ... environmentalists convinced the USF to halt controlled burning, they essentially guaranteed that wildfires would be bigger and more destructive.

Yeah, we know all about those guys. And there is a lot to be gained by thinning out the forests. Not only with controlled burns, but by also logging more fallen timber.

But lightning, at least around here, is what starts most wildfires. Fire is a natural part of life.

Now they've moved to the Boardwalk in Jersey!

Did you every wonder why most of these stories start with A former official with (fill in your favorite agency) claims (insert your favorite conspiracy)..... blah, blah blah...

I ain't the sharpest stick in the pile but I think the employment status ie: former or ex and the claims they make are connected. I sure could use an ex-climatologist this winter when I have to shovel 3 feet of global warming out of my driveway.

By the time their done, no wood will be exist in the US...crippling our ability to...build boardwalks...

Exactly. Not too long ago I was close to a story that broke regionally that quoted two people I knew as "former _______ employees." The reporter acted as if they were credible sources when in fact both of the former employees had been fired, one was a receptionist and the other a low level data entry person, and yet they were allowed to comment and seen as sources for a story dealing with activities and actions of people fifty floors above them.

I'm willing to bet the "ex-NSA" official pushed a broom.

If you're drinking Drambuie during any of our bird seasons it is obvious you are wearing the wrong gear. Let me know the next time you head this way. We can go looking for fire-setting terrorist or something and then go to Brewery Ommegang and see what the Belgians are up to. You never know. They may be harboring a few firestarters.

The only terrorizing going on in my neck of the woods is my buddy and me terrorizing the turkey/deer/trout/bass populations. We're not genteel enough to shoot a brace of pheasant or whatever it is youse guys do in Joyzee.
