a High School Textbook Summarizes the Rights Guaranteed in the Second Amendment

    Controversy is brewing around a school district in Denton, Texas, that is said to be using a United States history book that seems to summarize the Second Amendment inaccurately. However, the Denton Independent School District maintains it only uses the book as “supplemental” material and is “disseminating the correct information on the Second Amendment” from other texts.

    But there are several other schools that appear to be using the book, too.

    “The people have the right to keep and bear arms in a state militia,” the definition in the book, “United States History: Preparing for the Advanced Placement Examination,” which acts as a study guide for the Advanced Placement U.S. history test, reads.

    I was in the State Milita of NY and the Commowealth Milita of VA - neither issued us or nor authorized us to use firearms weapons

    Well, these aren't five year olds. These are high school AP students and they figure out and debate this stuff when they come across it. Let the students go in and demand answers if they want them and just have the parents listen. Give them some credit before rushing in to solve what is really THEIR problem to solve if they see it as a problem...with you standing there to support them as needed, of course.

    The statement is a lie. It is not open to personal interpretation or debate so long as one wants to remain in truth and reality. It is a far left political agenda and has no place in academia or in public school text books. Nothing but a poor attempt at indoctrination.

    A generation ago, I'd have agree with you. Today? I've seen my young-adult kids' friends and observed them over the last ten years, back to when they were all in high school. Many of them wouldn't have the sense to question the text or the teacher. They'd just blindly accept it, and then argue vehemently with someone who actually knows what the Second Amendment says that "it doesn't say that." Not a good approach, Gina.

    Exactly right. That's why the book needs to be challenged by those who know the truth, not left up to the questionable judgment of a teenager to "challenge."
