One of Obama's preferred golf courses, the course on Andrews Airforce Base remains open during the government shutdown. The grocery stores on the base, where troops get discounted groceries for their families are, however, closed. They will shop "at local stores that cost about 30 percent more, Lieutenant General Raymond Mason, the service’s deputy chief of staff for logistics, said yesterday at a House hearing."

The park service tried to shut down Mt. Vernon because it "might own" one of the parking lots used by the George Washington estate, but the Great Pretender's golf course is open.

They have to keep the golf courses open. That's where all the government policies are really decided while we're all watching drama theater on CSPAN.

Then we should all invite ourselves to a sleepover at the White House and insist our host and good friend Barrack take us golfing at his favorite spot after (our very healthy and well balanced) breakfast the next morning.
The house is owned by the government, and thus the American people, so we should be allowed in.

Which is what I don't get about them not letting people into parks during a government shutdown. Federal property is government property, thus paid for with taxes, ie by us, so if it's collectively ours...I think this all goes back to

SLEEPOVER!

If you don't make the sleepover, you can always just reserve a room another time by going here: http://whitehouse.gov1.info/visit/ I HIGHLY recommend you also go through the "Secret Service Agent for a Week" program. The only issue I had with the training was that they didn't tell me I had to find my own way through one of the secret tunnels to get to the initial meeting. Grrrrr!!!!

Since the Democrats can't get the parks open, why not privatize them? That way the parks would be immune to government shutdowns.

Rev. you simply do not understand the military. As they say in the Navy, a battleship or two may be cut from the budget, but the admiral's
cabinet will always be well stocked.

Isn't this a Congressional issue as well as a Presidential issue?

The President proposes a yearly budget. Congress has to approve it.

Instead, Congress has had to resort to a so-called continuing resolution -- a catchall bill to keep the government operating on life support while negotiations continue -- in each of the past 16 years.

There have been 93 continuing resolutions passed since 1998, covering operations for as little as 21 days in 1999 to the full years of 2007 and 2011, according to the Congressional Research Service.

Since the standoff between President Bill Clinton and Congress that last shut down most of the government, funding of more functions has shifted to means outside the appropriations process, Kamarck said.

It's not like he couldn't have played golf somewhere else and folks wouldn't have still complained about him playing golf while folks are furloughed.

On another note, if Congress has agreed to give furloughed workers backpay, doesn't this just amount to paid vacation?

That only works if the government doesn't own the land. There's a difference between privatizing and being privately owned. The government owns most of the parks. Letting a private company RUN them doesn't stop their control over the parks.

I don't have a problem with him taking some time off. Even for a Great Pretender who doesn't understand the office he is in, or how the government he allegedly heads works, it is still a pressure cooker, as one can tell by the wrinkles and the grey hair he has sported the last year. What I have a problem with is his complete lack of common sense in making the trip choices he's made in the face of crises.

He returned to the campaign trail the day after Benghazi without a trace of remorse beyond canned and scripted platitudes for the camera over the four men who died, men whom he still has not avenged while the alleged mastermind of their deaths roams free in Tunisia. He went to Martha's Vineyard and did absolutely nothing toward preparing his alleged "jobs initiative" in 2011. He did the same thing with the same destination this year without submitting a completed budget, negotiating obviously needed restraints for his ACA implementation (to be fair, he still hasn't), or appointing a new fed chair.

All president's take vacations, granted. But George W. Bush took nothing but working vacations at the Crawford ranch through the balance of his presidency after 9/11. During those trips he moved the entire White House staff to Crawford with him.

Clinton famously went to Jackson Hole, Wyoming twice, in '95 and '96, rather than to his usual "party-with-the-rich-and-famous" one-month stop-off at Martha's Vineyard during the leadup to the '96 elections. (Do the Democrats think they'll scoop up some of JFK's charisma vacationing there, or what?) Dick Morris told him it "looked bad" to be rubbing elbows with the ultra-rich when he was supposedly the "president of the people." Beyond that, however, particularly during the government shutdown in 1995-96, he cancelled two planned trips, one personal and one abroad representing the U.S. to Europe.

Ronald Reagan spent a year of his presidency, total, at his California ranch, but like Bush 43, all were working vacations, and he moved most of their White House staffs to the ranch during the time he was out of Washington.

This guy in the White House now doesn't have any common sense, decorum or respect for the public. If he did, he'd behave as if he at least wanted to pretend to have concern for them. Odd that a Great Pretender doesn't consider that.

On another note, if Congress has agreed to give furloughed workers backpay, doesn't this just amount to paid vacation?
Pretty much so.

Maybe that's the way he deals with crises? Lots of folks handle business on the golf course. He's gonna please some folks with his behavior and displease others at the same time.

While it looks to lack common sense with some, with others it makes him look cool and in control under pressure.

He returned to the campaign trail the day after Benghazi without a trace of remorse beyond canned and scripted platitudes for the camera over the four men who died, men whom he still has not avenged while the alleged mastermind of their deaths roams free in Tunisia. So he didn't behave the way that YOU thought he should?

All president's take vacations, granted. But George W. Bush took nothing but working vacations at the Crawford ranch through the balance of his presidency after 9/11. During those trips he moved the entire White House staff to Crawford with him.

So? Folks constantly complained about how George Bush responded to crises too. How dare he not jump up and run out the room when he was told about those planes crashing into the WTC. Or why wasn't he on the ground the minute Hurricane Katrina got out the way?

We don't know the inside details for why Presidents respond the way they do in crises. And it makes no sense to get upset when they don't respond the way we think they should.

You are harboring some intense anger about this man that skews the way you view just about anything he does.

Clinton famously went to Jackson Hole, Wyoming twice, in '95 and '96, rather than to his usual "party-with-the-rich-and-famous" one-month stop-off at Martha's Vineyard during the leadup to the '96 elections. (Do the Democrats think they'll scoop up some of JFK's charisma vacationing there, or what?) Beyond that, however, particularly during the government shutdown in 1995-96, he cancelled two planned trips, one personal and one abroad representing the U.S. to Europe.

So? That was Clinton. This is Obama.

Ronald Reagan spent a year of his presidency, total, at his California ranch, but like Bush 43, all were working vacations, and he moved most of their White House staffs to the ranch during the time he was out of Washington.

So? Neither Reagan nor Bush 43 are currently President. It's a different time and a different President. He gets to make decisions that suit him as the President just like they did.

This guy in the White House now doesn't have any common sense, decorum or respect for the public. If he did, he'd behave as if he at least wanted to pretend to have concern for them. Odd that a Great Pretender doesn't consider that.

Again, just opinion. You feel that way. There are lots of folks who feel like he's being respectful and showing great concern for them.

It just all sounds like partisan politics.

No. But then again, I think all behavior should be rational. Running away from a crisis isn't rational, when you're the guy in charge.

That's your opinion. He knows why he did what he did better than you or I. So I'm sure it seemed quite rational to him. You think he was running away from a crisis. Perhaps he rationalized that he was getting to some place where he could get away from all the cameras and reporters and just think about the decisions he needed to make.

As does your defense of him.

I'm not defending him. I think he's the worst President since Jimmy Carter. But that doesn't prevent me from seeing that there are a lot of things being said, about this man and what he does, out of anger and not necessarily the truth.

It ain't eternal. And when non-eternal mess makes folks behave the way that some do about this man, there's some anger issues. And anger eventually breeds hate.

Bull.

I think he's the worst President since Jimmy Carter. But that doesn't prevent me from seeing that there are a lot of things being said, about this man and what he does, out of anger and not necessarily the truth.
That's your opinion. Simple investigation would bear out the truth of our complaints if you would but open-mindedly investigate. You have no such desire.

It ain't eternal. And when non-eternal mess makes folks behave the way that some do about this man, there's some anger issues. And anger eventually breeds hate.
Only if the anger is unrighteous, and your opinion as to whether that anger is indeed, unrighteous or not (it is not), is of no consequence to me, or to others, and we will not be judged by you because of your temporal interest in defending this man.
