Parent says public high school is a bully

Aledo HS winning coach Tim Buchanan took out his starters at the end of the first quarter. The clock ran continuously from the early second quarter on when Aledo was on offense, and even (though the state "mercy rule" don't require it) ran the clock normally when Arlington Heights was on offense. They did everything they could, short of taking a knee on three consecutive plays and punting every time they had the ball, to avoid the blow-out, and still scored 13 touchdowns.
Ft. Worth Arlington Heights losing coach John Naylor was shocked when he heard one of his parents had used the Aledo bullying report function on the winning school's website to report that Aledo had "bullied" his team and the school in general. He called the Aledo coach to apologize, and said, "We've got no problem here." Naylor said the Aledo team was very sportsmanlike and no one in his athletic department believes anything, short of halting the game, would have prevented a blow-out.
You don't tell kids "When the going gets tough, quit." That essentially is what anyone who thinks Aledo is a "bully" is saying. Life is hard. Kids need to learn the hard lessons early. Otherwise, when life's first hard lesson comes along, the kid -- by then titularly an adult -- that has heretofore never experienced failure is gonna cave like a cheap lawn chair. No one -- particularly this bone-headed parent who made the report -- is doing Arlington Heights any favors trying to "protect" them.

# - Excellent post - Sure if this were 6 & 7 year old playing T-ball - it might be a different story. But these are HS kids - some which may be playing College ball next year.
Yes, life is tough - and sometimes the best lessons are learned when you loose - that lesson - pick youself up and go at it again. The only failure is when you refuse to try.

Then he would be as bad as the parent who called the Aledo bullying line. What do the kids learn from that? Again, the message would be "When the going gets tough, quit."
