Shots fired at LAX security checkpoint

A gunman opened fire at a security checkpoint Friday morning at Los Angeles International Airport, injuring a Transportation Security Administration employee and prompting a terminal evacuation.

A TSA spokesperson told NBC4 the shooting occurred at a security checkpoint. A traveler told NBC4 she heard gunfire in Tom Bradley Terminal, where she was preparing to board a flight to Mexico aboard Virgin America.

A medical triage area was established outside the terminal.
Still developing story.

UPDATED at 2:05 p.m. CDT:
The gunman in a shooting Friday at Los Angeles International Airport was wounded and taken into custody after prompting authorities to evacuate a terminal and stop flights headed for the city from taking off from other airports, officials say.

A law enforcement source tells Fox News that the suspect may be a former or current TSA employee.

Gunshots were reported at Terminal 3 just around 9:30 a.m., the FBI said. One witness said a person with a rifle opened fire after getting through a security checkpoint. The suspect exchanged fire with airport police, police said.

Police say at least three people were injured. It is unclear if the suspected gunman was included in their tally. The suspect was reportedly shot in the leg. Two male victims are in fair condition and one is in critical condition at Ronald Reagan Medical Center.

The Los Angeles Times reports that two or three TSA employees were hit by gunfire.
