‘60 Minutes’ Airs Apology on Benghazi

"60 Minutes" issued a brief on-air apology and correction on Sunday for its botched and mishandled report on the Benghazi attacks, but gave few details about the failures that led to its retraction of a piece it had staunchly defended.

Ms. Logan said that Dylan Davies, one of the main sources for a two-week-old piece about the attack on the American diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya, had misled the program’s staff when he gave an account of rushing to the compound the night the attack took place. “It was a mistake to include him in our report. For that, we are very sorry,” Ms. Logan said.

The apology lasted only 90 seconds and revealed nothing new about why CBS had trusted Mr. Davies, who appeared on the program under the pseudonym Morgan Jones. Off-camera, CBS executives were left to wonder how viewers would react to the exceptionally rare correction.

They based their retraction on an FBI report. What with NSA etc. going on, I have to wonder why they trusted an FBI report

A few thoughts.

We all knew Benghazi was a mess and we saw the cover-up and blame shifting starting long before CBS got a hold of this. I suspect the original broadcast was nothing more than an ill-fated effort to insulate team-zero from his responsibility in this episode.

Also, the left bent over themselves to excuse CBS's forgery of a military document as "fake, but accurate", so any rage over this is dubious.

Third, anyone expecting the truth from CBS is a fool.

When I first saw the title of this thread, the quote above was my thought as well, since I thought you meant that it was the OBAMA ADMINISTRATION that was doing the apologizing on 60 Minutes.

They reported something that put Obama admin in a bad light. You can bet your last dollar that CBS got a phone call from the Obama admin the nest day making sure they knew that was not acceptable. You can also bet Obama put pressure on them to retract. And here we have it. This is not surprising.
