Another question about Duck Dynasty

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

So Phil has every right to believe what he wants to and to express those beliefs. Likewise glad or whoever else has a right to disagree with him and express their beliefs. If we support one right to free speech we should protect them all.

A&E has every right to fire Phil. That is not against the law, there is no law broken. Sponsers have every right to withdraw support, and we as viewers have every right to change the channel.

But for those of us who support Phil, and I do, how do we show that support in a way that does not instead enrich A&E (Disney). Besides growing a beard, what can I do? Duck Dynasty belongs to A&E and so does all the merchandising. Watch the show, buy the T-shirts, coffee mugs, and calendars, and who gets the money? How much does A&E get vs how much goes to the Robertson family? I guess I could go buy a duck call but to be honest I already have one and that is one of those things you really don’t need two of.

Is it possible that A&E engineered this entire thing to increase sales of Duck Dynasty merchandise right before Christmas? Is it really possible that they had no idea what was in this interview that took place some time ago and is only now going to print?

Don't give up buying DD merchandise because you think the money goes in A&E's pocket. The franchise and the merchandise is all owned by Duck Commander, Inc., meaning those shirts you buy at Wal-Mart were wholesaled to the store by Duck Commander, Inc. A&E doesn't get squat, and never will, now.

Buck Commander if you're into deer more than ducks.

Merchandising, merchandising, where the real money from the movie is made. Spaceballs-the T-shirt, Spaceballs-the Coloring Book, Spaceballs-the Lunch box, Spaceballs-the Breakfast Cereal, Spaceballs-the Flame Thrower. ~Mel Brooks

A&E owns the rights to the Duck Dynasty brand but not the actual company product line. Go to the Duck Commander Store and take a look. They have more than just duck calls but for the life of me I don't know how you could say you don't need more than one call. I own a half dozen of them and I don't even duck hunt.

Yep and they can fire the entire group just for thinking that the Bible might be correct as soon as the Media finds out that the family members have such thoughts. It is their "business" and they can wreck it if they want.

They can sell their business and start promoting LGBT political action groups.

Many choices that are not "illegal".

Prayer and living a Christian life - and possibly writing letters to sponsors and A&E/disney etc.

in Christ,

I personally think A&E has pimped Christians with this show elevating the platform of false teachers.

I wonder how many more requests have they gotten to go share their brand of the gospel since the show took off?

[Padre is right about Duck Dynasty vs. Duck Commander.]

To reiterate what another poster has said, just pray that God uses these events to bring His truth to light to a sick sad world.

I appreciate that Phil made an attempt to get the interviewer to understand what constitutes salvation in the same article (near the end).

“So you and your woman: Are y’all Bible people?”

“Not really, I’m sorry to say,” the reporter replied.

“If you simply put your faith in Jesus coming down in flesh, through a human being, God becoming flesh living on the earth, dying on the cross for the sins of the world, being buried, and being raised from the dead—yours and mine and everybody else’s problems will be solved,” Phil said. “And the next time we see you, we will say: ‘You are now a brother. Our brother.’ So then we look at you totally different then. See what I’m saying?”
And just remember this: The Robertsons aren't hurting over this. They don't anymore need A&E than they need another duck call. I don't think there is a need to boycott anyone or get angry at those who truly do not understand anything about the God's Word. They are just doing what lost people do.

I do think, in my own heart, that God is going to do something here. And it may not be pleasant to endure.

But a very public line has now been drawn in the sand. We need to make sure we are all on the right side - God's side.

The "truth" though is that the vocal very small minority is able to NOT allow the majority to exercise the freedom of speech and religion, for if we really had that, then would not be getting censored or fired, as Phil should have the right to respond to the question asked him on what he saw as sin, and Gladd can say they disagree, but NOT force him to get fired!

the liberals are guiltless, as they refuse to acknowledge that their problem is with the Bible and Jesus directly, NOT Phil, and they want to eliminate God from culture!

I've never watched Duck Dynasty and do not plan to. Actually I watch very little television. Seems the older I become the less I watch.

This fellow, just like the rest of us, has a constitutional right to free speech. This fellow, just like us, does not have a constitutional right not to suffer the consequences ... good or bad ... for what he says.

You may be right. However, though he has the right to free speech he does not have a freedom from consequences of that speech. The consequences may be good or bad, but no one can protect him from either the good or the bad.

I've heard that they've filmed all but the final episode of the next season. This controversy guarantees through the roof ratings when the new season starts next month. I doubt many Christians will boycott the show. A&E will have a king size dilemma in a couple of months.

Back at church camp this past summer, a couple of the grades had a Duck Dynasty theme. Fake beards and duck calls around their neck along with the name tags. Hehe. At the time I didn't know much about it, and I think that was some of the first I'd heard of the show really.

From my research, there really doesn't seem to be much reason to get kids or other Christians enthused with this group of baptismal regeneration teachers.

Other grades had themes like Star Wars. With lightsabers and stuff. The themes for the grades was merely about fun and things many enjoy--nothing else.

I'd venture to say, Zaac, that when one considers all the Christians (including Catholics, Orthodox, Anglicans, Lutherans, Church of Christ, etc) worldwide across the years, one will observe that more Christians have subscribed to baptism regeneration than not.

The problem ain't that they are saying Jesus . They are saying Jesus AND...

I agree with you that is what their church officially teaches, but have they ever stated that is true. its faith in jesus and water baptism that saves a sinner?

When you tell people that you have to be baptized into Christ, what should we think they are saying?

Like Obama and Jeremiah Wright's teachings at his church, I find it quite unbelievebale that these folks would remain at this church underneath its teachings if they aren't teaching the same thing.
