MSNBC Apologizes for Controversial Tweet About Conservatives and Cheerios

Their M.O. seems to be to speak their mind and then, when caught, apologize. Then, once the heat's over, just say it again.

They can apologize all they like but at some point, it stops being an isolated incident and becomes an ongoing pattern of behavior.

 

They probably hand the Twitter account job off to a young person with little oversight.

Yet another example of the MSM insulting conservatives and being held accountable for it, contrary to the assertions that this rarely (or never) happens, by some on BB.

 

Actually that sounds like an ad that has run out here for couple three months.

Within hours of RNC Chairman Reince Priebus calling for aboycott of MSNBC appearances by RNC staffers over a network tweet that used a Cheerios commercial featuring a bi-racial family to taunt Republicans as racist, network president Phil Griffin ceded to Preibus's call for a public apology with a statement read on the air by "The Cycle" co-host Ari Meiber.

"I personally apologize to Mr. Priebus," the statement said. "And to everyone offended." Griffin added, "We have dismissed the person responsible for the tweet."

The network did what networks do to try and protect themselves. I think more revealing here is the mindset that believes what they posted, that the “rightwing” is upset about a positive, normal portrayal of a multiracial family.

Honestly, I had seen this add several times and I never even noticed the family was mixed race until they started running news stories about how controversial it was. But there are people out there, the poster to be specific, that think conservatives are somehow opposed to this commercial. That is the perception we need to change. All the network or the post did was honestly report what they believe. We need to be more active proving and showing that their view is false, not just getting them to shut up.

If someone thinks you are racist you can claim all day long you are not, but why do they think you are? What are you doing that makes people believe you are racist, and how can you change that? Perception is reality. If people think your church is racist, it becomes racist because people of color avoid it.

The correct response is to show where the statement is false, highlight minority conservatives, highlight Mitt Romney’s black grandchild, highlight Jeb Bush’s Mexican born Hispanic wife and their mixed race children.

We have to quit playing defense and prove people like this poster wrong if we want to change that perception.

 

Exactly. Someone on the FNC "Special Report" panel last night said exactly the same thing. The left's perception of their opposition is so skewed by personal animosity, prejudice, even reverse racism, they can't think clearly.

While that sounds reasonable, when was the last time you had a logical discussion with a liberal? Really.

I don't mean to come off sounding exactly like the idiot that posted this nonsense on Twitter, but the ability of liberals to openly, honestly and rationally communicate with their opposition seems to me, from my experience, to be severely limited. I work in a profession populated by liberals. Their approach to counseling tends toward exactly what the caricature of a liberal would lead you to expect: Blame others, it isn't your fault, the problem lies with the law, the general public perception, etc. Sure they touch on personal responsibility, but not to the extent that I and most of the rest of the profession do.

Liberals have a mindset that prevents them from being rational. That's gonna tick off our resident liberals, but there isn't any other way to put it. Unless someone is centrist or to the right of that, they can't grasp the reality of our sociopolitical and economic dynamic, and therefore have difficulty understanding a rational response to drug addiction, poverty, healthcare, etc. -- though I admit I've talked to some just left of center who could rationally analyze those situations and argue reasonably for their preferred response. I freely admit, there are conservatives who have the same problem, but I honestly believe there are far fewer of them than there are liberals who suffer from this mindset.

Unfortunately, the majority of liberals, rather than argue or reason rationally, simply dismiss opposing views as themselves irrational, unhinged, "stupid." Liberals really don't know how to compromise or discuss with any reason. I apologize to those of you who are offended by those words, but until I see some balanced, cogent ideas coming from that end of the political spectrum, I will hold to that view.

A teacher does not stop teaching just because their students are ignorant or stupid, they simply keep teaching.

Education and exposure is the cure for many of our problems. We just have to keep explaining it.

 

I don't think we can. They are going to perceive the world through their own lenses, and they don't match up well with ours.

Exactly, but by the time one is adult, they either have a permanent mindset, or simply won't change that easily. Even with better information than that which formed the mindset to begin with.

When it falls on deaf ears, however ...
