Could John the Baptist, Paul or Jesus lead a fundamental or evangelical church?

What do you think? Not one of them, including Paul himself, meets the requirements laid down in the New Testament.

“It is a sad fact that today, many evangelical churches would not permit John the Baptist, Paul or Jesus Himself even to lead a house group because they are not married (they would probably ban Peter too, as he spends too little time with this family!).”

Chilcraft, One of Us, 121. Cf. “Single-Minded: Single People in the Church.”

Non-issue. Neither of these three would want to lead a church and yes, they do not meet the Biblical requirements.

Because they took scripture seriously. They wouldn't want to violate it.

Specifically what scripture are you referring to?
About a pastor must be the husband of one wife ?
Which means a pastor could not be single?

We are told in no uncertain terms why a pastor needs to be married. I would not attend a church with a single pastor.

Does that include a pastor who becomes a widower?

Not trying to be sarcastic, but this is an honest question.

If that widower demonstrated that he ran his house in a Godly manner. I even believe if he eventually re-marries, he would still be qualified.

Serious question……

How many solid bible fearing pastors do you know, or suppose, that have become widowers ?

"Pastor" is a spiritual gift, and there is not one single requirement in Scripture concerning this gift, it is given by God.

Whatever.

Anyways, Jesus, Paul, and John the Baptist were all Jewish priests.

Lots of us think J the B was a Nazarite, from youth. His vows would have prevented him from biblically pastoring a New Testament church.

Paul was most definitely a Pharisee.
