A metaphor for putting the profits of junk food companies ahead of the good health and nutrition of kids.

    Shameful.

Pull quote from the opinion piece, and the reason the schools are losing money……

….students are refusing to eat the healthy foods.

Not some republican ploy, but stubborn kids.

Clearly, we need to start indoctrinating them at an earlier age, eh C.T.Boy ?

Like my Mama used to say, "When you are hungry enough you will eat those green beans." Would you feed your child junk food just because they say they do not like nutritious food?

I don't feel the need to explain how I feed my kid to you or anyone else.

I noticed you absolutely ignored the words in my post. The O/P is not true. The schools were losing money before somebody tried to fix it. You are trying to blame something on your enemy that is not their fault. That is what is shameful.

    Answer my question, please.

Actually, my friend, it is the GOP. Here is a headline from Fox News:

So, my friend you see it is the GOP who now cares nothing about the good nutrition of kids. Profits, profits, profits for the corporations at the expense of health of our kids. Shameful

But if any Obama wants good nutrition then the party of "NO" has to be against it. Shameful!

I will accept an apology for your quick and very wrong reaction.

Heh. When you get mad, it's easy to tell. You can't use the quote functions, and you resort to personal attacks.

The kids aren't eating Mooch's stupid school lunches. Good for them. We've wasted enough money on them.

    Your O/P is wrong.

……School boards are asking Congress to allow schools to opt out. Some schools are raiding their teaching budgets to cover the costs of mounds of wasted fruits and vegetables, Lucy Gettman of the National School Boards Association said.

“Every school is probably impacted a little bit differently ... there isn’t comprehensive data available,” she said. She noted that one school district in Alaska reported having to transfer $135,000 from its education budget to meet the new requirements — and that the incident was far from unique.

Diane Pratt-Heavner of the School Nutrition Association, which represents nonprofit lunch providers in the National School Lunch program, said data show 1,445 schools have dropped out of the program since the standards went into effect as costs mount.

Lawmakers acted this week. A House spending bill approved by a subcommittee on Tuesday would force the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to give a temporary waiver to school lunch programs that can show they were operating at a net loss for the last six months. That provision is supported by the National School Boards Association, as well as the School Nutrition Association. They also support other efforts, including a bill by Rep. Kristi Noem (R-S.D.) to stop imposition of more stringent standards coming down the pike…..

Within days of Obama’s new USDA regulations taking hold parents and schoolchildren launched complaints surrounding the rationing of meals, a move that left kids hungry and school districts frustrated with all of the additional paperwork and program expenses. The USDA subsequently upped the rations to assuage frustration.

But according to America’s kids Michelle Obama has been “out to lunch” when it comes to satisfying hunger. It’s so bad, in fact, that black markets for food have popped up in schools and kids are taking to their social media pages to share their outrage.

Do you want to see what Michelle Obama considers eating right? Check out these pictures and comments – sourced directly from government run cafeterias around the country.

As you see what passes for health food these days keep in mind that school’s are increasingly restricting children from bringing their own lunches from home, often citing nutritional requirements as the reason.

I'd seen the student tweets before, but not with the juxtaposition of what her own daughters get to eat.

Some of us seem to be welcoming our new overlords.

Elitism. Yummy. Doncha just love it?

I keep wondering if Mrs. O is so health conscious why isn't she speaking out against Monsanto and the other giant agribusinesses that are corrupting our food supply and lobbying to put organic farmers out of business? Then I think oh because Mr. O and the democratic party would lose alot of campaign money. I'm so sick of all the hypocrisy from the left and the right.

In a country like this, where the "poor people" are fat, who gets hungry enough to eat what they can't stand? If you've had the experience of giving the sack lunch you're taking to work to someone holding a sign saying "will work 4 food," then watching him walk away and toss it into the first trash can he comes by, you might understand the level of appreciation for having (at least somewhat) nutritious foods.

BTW are we to assume you didn't eat your green beans unless you got 'hungry enough?' Did you?-- to either question.

    Been wondering the same thing!!!

Probably like those pesky gnats that swarm around you in the summer; try your best to ignore, but occasionally you just HAVE TO SWAT - even though the relief is disgustingly temporary.:tear:

Been suckered in myself sometimes knowing that it's futile 'cause Crabby is the consummate liberal; chase rabbits OR scream "OFF TOPIC". Anything to avoid revealing the absurdity of the liberal mind-set.

Hey, it is mostly Democrats who send their kids to public schools so these little Democrats better start eating healthy or they will have to look at videos from the Obamas and the Clintons for the next ten years.
