Over a quarter of the nation’s population is not working and is also not looking for work, according to new June data released on Thursday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), an agency of the federal government.

According to the new report, over 92,120,000 of Americans age 16 and older did not participate in the labor force in June, an increase of 111,000 over April’s report.

The labor force participation rate for the month of June, according to the BLS, was just 62.8%, which matched a 36-year low.

The graph below shows major declines in the number of Americans working, contrary to the highly doctored official unemployment statistic, which has deceptively shown a declining number, indicating that unemployment is getting better.

300,000 people retired in June. By definition these people are not employed and are not looking for work. I would like to see the labor participation charts for people aged 16 to 59. Can you provide?

It's in the OP's link article:
You might notice that, if you Google the headline on Rev's OP verbatim, you'll find only so-called "conservative" media reporting this. The liberally biased media won't touch it. Strange, huh?

Ah, no. Not so much. You can find the numbers hidden in these stats from BLS.

There is no mention of the upper endpoint for age in the OP article or in the BLS table. Until and unless people that have retired are removed from these numbers the stats are meaningless. Over 3.5 million people per year are joining the "unemployed and no longer looking for work" demographic because they've retired.

The statistics for "Men ..." and "Women ..." " ... 20 years and over" do not count retirees. Nor does the "TOTAL ... Civilian non-institutionalized population" category.

Your resistance to the truth is becoming disturbing.

There’s a persistent lie making its way through popular media — and often twisted through social media. Like any good lie it starts with a kernel of truth but gradually becomes a clear and open lie.

The truth — the labor force participation rate is at a 40 year low, down to 63% from a high over 67%.
The lie — that this is the result of people giving up looking for work, a sign that the “recovery” is weak (which can be blamed on President Obama).

We’ve discussed this before, but it’s important to confront the lie as clearly as possible. Yes, the labor force is shrinking — but this has been due to retirement of Baby Boomers for the last two year. And yes, the trend will continue.
