A federal court ruled Monday that the existence of a cross at Ground Zero does not violate the Constitution, slamming the appeal filed by the secular activist group American Atheists.

The famous cross, formed by two intersecting beams left standing after the 9/11 attacks, has been a powerful spiritual symbol for many since and even during the tragedy. Frank Silecchia discovered the cross while helping recover bodies from the site. “It was a sign,” he later said. ”a sign God hadn’t deserted us.”

Imagine that! A building made of horizontal and vertical crossbeams collapses, and some of the rubble appears like a cross. It's a miracle!

Wow MP. Could you find a lower shot to take than at people finding a measure of comfort in that horror? Maybe some parents of a baby with a terminal illness found money enough in a coat pocket to pay for needed meds and you can mock them too for letting it remind them to pray, since it was their money from work anyhow.

Yes, I assure you he can. He is currently being well reseved. I knew when I posted this he would come out of the shadows to mock it. Now he will go back to lurking until the next issue like this comes up. He absolutely cannot stand public dispays of Christianity. That really urks him.

Gina, not taking a shot at anyone. I merely point out the obvious...that is, seeing a cross in this is no more miraculous than Jesus on a slice of toast or the Virgin Mary in a water stain. Human beings seek patterns that mean something to them, and overlay those onto environmental phenomena. I find it both amusing and in some ways, a sad commentary on the ability of people to think critically about things.

Sunrises are commonplace, but people will often find great comfort in simply witnessing the majesty of God's promise in that simple event every day. This is not a piece of toast or a water stain. This is a symbol of hope found in the rubble of a declaration of war. Your unwillingness to see or understand that speaks volumes about where your heart is, M/P. Is there any way I can share the Gospel and its hope with you, please?

So, veneration of an object is the litmus test of a Christian? Interesting perspective. It seems that you believe God could not be bothered with lifting a finger to stop the attacks, but took the time to make a miraculous cross and toss it down as a bone. Strange theology, TND.

By the way, nothing I said here was denigrating those who for whatever reason, gain solace from this scrap of rubble. That is their thing. Again, I merely point out the obvious...that this is not a miraculous object. It only has meaning that is attached to it.

No one on this board said it was "miraculous" did they? The judge didn't say it was "miraculous" did he? You're going a long way around the barn to make an invalid point.
Massive twist of God's character, M/P. Don't change the subject. There's a question before you.

Which is what? Can you share the Gospel? You don't need my permission. However, your question is underlaid by an invalid assumption.

Let's just say you don't appear to understand the Gospel as I do. As most on this board do. So the natural assumption, and that is all it is, after all, is that you don't know the Gospel. Forgive me if I stand incorrect.

TND, I will not surmise to know what you believe about the gospel, nor if it is in complete agreement with my understanding. However, I appreciate your heart and apology.

Shocker. I agree with M.P.. I believe scripture forbids images, and fighting to keep a cross up is not what God wants us to do.

What if these girders had accidently formed the Islamic Crescent, or Buddha ? Would we be fighting to tear them down ?

The images spoken of in scripture are those which are intended to represent God or a god. That has nothing to do with this cross.

The cross doesn't represent God or a god ?

I have never seen the cross as representing God nor do I know anyone who does. It does represent the finished work of the cross. Those are two different things completely.

No one bows down in front of the cross and thinks "This cross is God."

The cross is one of the most venerated idols in Christianity. Please don't try and convince me it isn't.

People are told not to bow down in front of anything, ever, so I cannot buy that God wants a cross at ground zero. And my question goes unanswered.

You can believe what you want but that is a bunch of hogwash. Either you have a skewed view of what an idol is or you are assuming the worst about people. Either way it is unfounded.

Unfounded. Is that you haven't answered my question ?
