President: I Won't Sign Any Bill to Repeal Obamacare

I think we have always known he would never sign a repeal. Never.

If they presented him with one, it would just be to please a segment of their constituency. It's pretty much a waste of time.

 

Perhaps, perhaps not.
I certainly hope that a possible (certain?) veto does not become the criteria for the legislature to decide what bills to send for the POTUS signature.
If that is the case, a fantastic election has just self-destructed.

 

He's under no obligation to sign any bill. His lack of signing is not an impeachable offense.

There are procedures in place to override a veto.

 

He can't be stopped from vetoing, no.

 

No, they have no legal authority to stop him from vetoing a bill.

As if we expected he would sign a repeal. And I don't know about peeling off 10+ Dems in the Senate for a veto override.

 

He will never sign it. To do so would be an admission that what defines his presidency, and what he wants to be his legacy, is a failure.

He doesn't have to sign the bill. If he vetoes, it goes back to the Congress and they can override his veto and pass it into law. :applause: God Bless our Republic.

 

The Republicans know they can't repeal ObamaCare in its entirety. They can't pass a bill that is aimed to wave a magic wand and have the ACA disappear. But they can chip away at it with bills to repeal portions of it.

The medical devices tax is an area where the Republicans could get a veto override majority in the Senate. I'm in Minnesota, a state with a lot of high-tech medical companies and uber-liberal senator Al Franken and liberal senator Amy Klobuchar have both said the medical devices tax needs to be changed. Both are Democrats.

Another area that could be repealed is the mandate that employers with 50 or more employees must offer insurance to their employees. That number could be adjusted upwards, say, to 100 employees. I think there might be support for that among 10 Democrats, which would get the numbers needed to override a veto.

 

Who really knows what the GOP will get done besides actually working together both the house and the Senate.

Right now the Dems are licking their wounds as they have seen the biggest Democrat defeat in their lifetime.

The GOP needs to make whatever they do politically expedient for the Prez and the Dems. The Prez has surrounded himself with yes men and he is an idealogue so it is less likely to move on anything.

However, the Dems in the House and Senate are not in such a bubble. I think it is possible to get them to move on a veto override if it is seen as politically expedient. Right now that is more possible than ever as they will be somewhat sensetive due to this recent defeat.
