The new GOP leadership has made passage of TTP and TTIP a top priority. The Trans-Pacific and Trans-Atlantic agreements are being negotiated in secret by the corporate masters of Obama and the GOP leadership. Elected representatives and the people they represent are not allowed to know what’s in the agreement as it is being fast-tracked. We can’t know what’s in it until they pass it. Sound familiar? Hint: it involves control of the internet, loss of national sovereignty and special privileges for multi-national corporations that domestic businesses won’t enjoy

You may want to send Rev a link to this thread since he seemed to jest about the Grand Ole Party ever daring to do such a thing.

If it's such a secret, how do you know about it?

But you are attacking the source not the OP. This is what is referred to as an informal fallacy with a nice little ad hominem thrown in with a sprinkle of strawman on the side for presentation. Serve chilled of course.

OK, maybe I should insert links to webpages about a totally different subject matter?

Copy your post and save it. You can use it several times a day, maybe even on yourself.

Attack the source or bring up an unrelated topic to derail the thread. Favorite tactic of many posters here. No names mentioned.

    Somebody would attack the source....

Or try to derail the thread.

The negotiations aren't secret. Most of what's being negotiated is secret.

We can't know what's in the bill until it passes. Because American voters are to stupid to understand, didn't you hear?

Fox News’ Megyn Kelly tonight aired more unearthed video of Obamacare architect Jonathan Gruber saying that “the American voters are too stupid to understand the difference” on the language of the law.

Politics, the saying goes, makes strange bedfellows. In presidential politics, the cozy compromises with the unconstitutional seem even more unsettling.

Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.), a man whose personal popularity and political fortunes have increased in direct proportion to his spreading of his libertarian-leaning ideals, has now publicly embraced the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), an unprecedented sovereignty surrender masquerading as a multi-national trade pact.

What may seem like totally unrelated issues sometimes are related.

I know you don't care much for trying to connect the dots but sometimes they actually do connect.

Conspiracy or coincidence doesn't really matter when together they cause harm to the nation.

    For instance . . .

U.S. and China Strike Historic Climate Change Deal

The U.S. and China, which together account for more than a third of all of the world's greenhouse gas emissions, have negotiated a sweeping agreement to cut emissions drastically by 2030, a deal that President Barack Obama called a "major milestone" Wednesday at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Beijing.

APEC and Trans-Pacific Partnership mutually useful: research

A successful conclusion to the Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations currently underway would cover more than USD 500 billion worth of trade among its members, according to research published by APEC’s Policy Support Unit.

The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) involves negotiations between nine APEC economies – Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Chile, Malaysia, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, Viet Nam and the United States – for a free trade agreement (FTA), which, if concluded, would become one of the largest in the Asia-Pacific region.

The PSU research, which is separate to the negotiations, focuses on how APEC and the TPP could be mutually useful in achieving their objectives, despite their different approaches.

    http://www.apec.org/Press/News-Releases/2011/1025_TPP.aspx

Giving away our national sovereignty to an "international body" never sounded so good, unless you count NAFTA, GATT, CAFTA . . .

Thanks to WikiLeaks, we see just how bad TPP trade deal is for regular people

I'm talking about the appalling Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement, a partial draft of which WikiLeaks has just released. This treaty has been negotiated in secret meetings dominated by governments and corporations. You and I have been systematically excluded, and once you learn what they're doing, you can see why.

The outsiders who understand TPP best aren't surprised. That is, the draft "confirms fears that the negotiating parties are prepared to expand the reach of intellectual property rights, and shrink consumer rights and safeguards," writes James Love a longtime watcher of this process.

My learning about things before the rest of you is one of the benefits of not being lost in the false left vs right paradigm I reckon.

NOVEMBER 11 ― The Star reported today (November 11, 2014) that there is a systemic push for the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA) to be signed.

This is a momentous agreement and yet, there is very little critical and systemic debate surrounding it. In Malaysia Bantah TPPA and the Third World Network have been its most vociferous critics but its champions have also not been lacking e.g. the Ideas Centre.

Proponents of the TPPA argue that free trade is an inherent good. It will enlarge trade, reduce tariffs (and hence prices); people will benefit as the benefits of trade always trickles down.

Indeed, it is hard to fault free trade but the TPPA is not what it purports to be ― about engendering free trade. Leaked reports surrounding the TPP negotiations show that the TPPA’s main concerns are as Noam Chomsky correctly identifies, “extreme, highly protectionist…(and) about investor rights”. Others , including intellectual property expert, Dr. Matthew Rimmer , likened the TPPA to a “Christmas wish-list for major corporations”.

    What is the TPPA?
