Has Black Friday ruined Thanksgiving?

Stores have to stock discounted merchandise very late Wednesday in order to be open at some early hour on Friday, as you know. And, of course, now some stores are opening on Thanksgiving Day.

Perhaps I am wrong, but it seems to me that a major part of people's social life is now going shopping because the American family and home are so smashed up. What do you think?

I suppose if you work retail Thanksgiving may not be all that great. My wife switched to night shifts as an RN so we are eating around 3:30. She will have to leave around 6:00 to get to work but at least she will be well fed.

I work at a C-Store. I will work Wed night then off until Mon.
Mrs. Salty is off Wed night till Sat night (goes back Sun night)
She works at the hospital- We both work graveyard

But for the OP - Yes - it is total unnecessary for all the hype of black Friday.

It probably has for those who have to work rather than having the opportunity to enjoy the holiday. It probably has for those who like "Black Friday" shopping and now have to rush to be first in line.

My strategy is to batten the hatches so to speak. I don't leave the house until it is all over. I watch college football and eat leftovers all day. I'll keep the kids if my wife wants to brave it. She tried it one time and came back empty handed.

If you're open on Sundays or holidays, the consumers will come. It's all about offering your customer convenient shopping times regardless what day it is.

I'm always up early...about 430 am and quick check gives out free coffee and Home Desperate usually sells balsam wreathes for 5 dollars each...so I get a couple. Other than that, getting cafinated and getting decorated, I ain't interested in the hooplah.
